Extract images from videos and films and divide it into photos

Capturing an image or a series of photos from a video or film is one of those operations with a simple idea but one never knows how to do it on a Windows computer.
In fact, the first thing that comes to mind to capture the frame of a film is to put the display in full screen, press pause at the desired point and take a screenshot of what appears on the screen with the "Stamp" button.
Then using any image viewing program such as IrfanView and paste the acquired image.
Definitely a boring and cumbersome method that cannot be the best way to divide a film into frames and transform a part of a video into a series of images.
There are several programs that allow you to capture and extract images from a video quickly and easily, also programming to save a series of consecutive frames automatically .
1) The first one to try is VLC Media Player, a program that everyone should already have (and if it were not to be installed immediately).
This free and open source program is full of features including one for capturing a screen shot of the video you are viewing.
Any video being played can then be paused in the right place and then press the menu key at the top Video> Take Screen .
This operation saves the image in the same folder where the video you are watching is located.
In the Tools> Preferences menu, go to the Video tab to be able to choose where to save the images extracted from the video, the prefix of the file name to distinguish them and then also the format, which is PNG by default.
Keep in mind that with VLC you can open videos from Youtube or other websites, in case you want to save photos from Youtube videos.
2) Gom Player is a software already seen in this blog and always considered one of the best to play movies and videos of any format.
So very similar to the very famous VLC Media Player, it contains all the codecs to open any type of file, whether the playback comes from a DVD, from a CD or from a file.
In addition to its universal player functionality and the fact that it is open source and therefore free and continuously improved, it also contains interesting options including the Burst Capture which is used to capture video frames and save them on the computer as a JPEG image file.
On Gom Player, to use the function to capture images from films or videos, you must right-click on the program window and select the Control Panel, or just press F7.
From the control panel, in the video menu, there are two buttons, one is Screen Capture and one Advanced Capture.
With the Screen Capture button or the CTRL + E keys, during video playback, a frame is captured which is automatically saved as an image file.
By pressing instead on Advanced Capture, you access a configuration menu in which you can select the amount of frames to be acquired and captured automatically and consecutively (maximum 999), and the time interval between one image and another.
Still in the same menu, you can see the folder where the images are saved and the format of the same which can be JPG or BMP.
Therefore, if you chose to capture 10 frames at zero seconds of interval, pressing the Burst Capture button you get 10 images representing 10 consecutive photographs of the video played.
Zero seconds therefore does not mean that you take the same image 10 times but it is the minimum interval of time to do what is called the frame-by-frame of the video.
3) An excellent program for viewing videos and also for capturing frames from a video is Media Player Classic Home Cinema, which has the Save thumbnails and save images functions in the File menu of the main interface.
4) Alternatively, you can use the Video Decompiler program, which only serves to capture images from a video or movie while it is playing or playing.
This software manages to show a video frame by frame and has a button to go forward or backward with which to scroll through the photos into which the entire movie is divided.
5) Another Windows program is Scenegrabber which allows you to divide a video into frames manually or automatically.
The capture of the frames can also then be mounted in a single image with the sequence.
6) Free Video to JPG Converter is a program similar to the previous ones that allows you to capture and divide a video or film into images.
Also in this program you can decide the capture frequency, the number of frames and even allows you to convert the whole video into a set of images and frames.
7) To extract images from Youtube videos you can use the Youtubescreenshot online tool, all automatic.
