Yesterday was the turn of Google, which thanks to the recent acquisition of HTC, presented several new "devices" this year, including a new smartphone, the Pixel 2 XL, which will finally also be on sale in Italy (while the its predecessor, the Pixel 1, has not seen its shadow and will never be seen).
The Pixel 2 thus becomes a new competitor for the palm of the best smartphone of the year and, above all, becomes a purchase alternative to the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X, the recent models launched by Apple that dominate, together with the Samsung Galaxy, the most expensive smartphone market.
The Pixel 2, in fact, in its XL version which is the only one on sale in Italy for now, is the best Google phone, a smartphone of the powerful and super technological ones, with a base price of almost 1000 Euros.
The fact that the Pixel 2 XL is also sold in Italy, contrary to the standard version, depends above all on the fact that while the normal Pixel 2 is built by HTC, the Pixel 2 XL is built by LG, a definitely stronger company commercially ( we will then see what will happen in the future with the recent purchase of Google for the HTC mobile division).
The Pixel 2 XL, therefore, you can buy from Italy directly from the Google site or you can buy it with Tre, which will have the exclusive commercial for sale with built-in SIM card and subscription.
Speaking of technical specifications, this new Google smartphone has a 6 ”large screen with a resolution of 2880x1440 pixels (therefore very high quality Quad HD), then a Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 Octa-Core processor, with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory.
The front camera is 8.0 MP while the rear one, which Google says to be the best ever mounted on a smartphone, from 12.2 MP.
With a battery of 3520 mAh (medium level) capacity, the Pixel 2 is also waterproof and water resistant.
As you can see from the photos, the appearance is very refined and elegant, with aluminum support, a fingerprint scanner, Gorilla Glass on the front and USB-C connector.
As special features we can mention the one called " Active Edge " which allows you to call the Google Assistant by pressing the sides of the phone.
By copying one of the worst features of the latest iPhones, Google has also removed the headphone jack from its smartphone.
The reasons for this omission probably lie in the fact that the Pixel 2 is waterproof and an extra hole would have made it more difficult to make it resist water (IP67).
As a Google phone, it is obvious that the Pixel 2 offers the great advantage of being the one who will first receive future updates to the Android system, at least for two or three years.
Always having the latest version of Android always puts the latest system functions, quick bug fixes and the assurance that every known security problem is immediately resolved into the hands of users.
My dispassionate opinion and more independent than ever, is that this Pixel is a great cell phone, super modern and complete, but with a rather high price.
The Pixel 2 is, probably, the best phone sold by Google to date and since it is the first to be sold in Italy, the desire to have it is absolutely not lacking.
Who currently has to change phone and especially who has had a Nexus, will surely be satisfied with buying a Pixel 2, provided he has the money to do it.
Unfortunately, it seems that the prices of the best smartphones tend to rise rather than fall, so even if I personally believe that 1000 Euros is always a disproportionate price for a smartphone, it must be admitted that it is in line with other models of this level such as the Galaxy Note 8 and the iPhone 8.
It cannot be forgotten, in fact, that phones like the OnePlus 5 cost half and offer practically similar characteristics to this, thus showing that it is not impossible to sell a high-level product without exaggerating with the final price.
