Every time a picture is taken, both with the camera and with the smartphone, hidden " meta-information " is added to the image which says a lot about the photos. These data usually say the date and time of the shot, the settings and model of the camera, and sometimes even the information on where these photos were taken.
With all this information, it is easy to find out where and when that photo was taken. and they can also create a location-based profile if they have access to all the photos you have taken.
If you are using a Windows PC, you can easily check this meta-information of digital photos.
Just click on it with the right button, go to the Properties and then the details tab.
Scrolling down you will find the EXIF data which contain information about the date and how the photograph was taken.
Even in a photo folder on Windows you can see all the information of the photos through the " Details " view of the icons.
You can right click on the column header to bring up new details available under " Other ".
To delete personal information from digital photos it is better to use an external program, which makes it easy to do and immediate.
One of them is FileMind QuickFix, a simple program used to eliminate EXIF data from photos, to be used before publishing them online.
Just install the program on the PC, run it, drag the photos to be edited into the program interface then press the Quick fix metadata button.
The program renames the original files by default (thus keeping the original versions) and adds the processed versions of the photos in the same folder.
Other alternative programs to erase personal data from photos are:
- Portable JPEG & PNG Stripper to remove information from JPEG and PNG files.
- Batch Purifier Lite, to eliminate EXIF and IPTC meta-data.
- Exif Tag Remover which supports more than 35 different image formats.
