Create Email Aliases in Outlook, Gmail, Yahoo to add email addresses to the account

One of the biggest computer problems of all time, is the spam that you receive on your inbox. The use of email, in fact, is often disturbed by a daily flood of incoming messages that are garbage in the form of unsolicited news, advertisements and commercial proposals. While Spam is something unavoidable if you spread your email address on the internet by using it to log in on websites, you can fight it and limit it severely with the use of aliases.
An email alias is essentially a new email address that binds to the primary address and can be used in a disposable way or to filter a certain type of message. For example, you can use an alias as a temporary address to give to unknown people or in the registration forms on the Web or when you want to differentiate professional relationships from personal ones or even when creating new accounts in apps on the phone.

What are Email Aliases

These aliases are also useful when it comes to organizing incoming messages, differentiating the emails received based on the alias address that receives them. By creating filters, you can make sure that the messages received in an email alias are automatically marked as special or as already read, or assigned to a certain label.
One of the most effective ways to fight spam and to keep your inbox organized, therefore, is to create aliases for your email address . which can be managed from the main account.
The idea behind the Email alias is to create a new email address within your email account, to be used to register on sites or to respond to unknown addresses that are not friends or colleagues. Replies or messages received in this alias appear normally in the inbox. However, if you notice too much spam arriving at that address, you can delete it without problems, always without absolutely changing and changing the main Email address. The alias is therefore a real address in which to receive confirmation messages or newsletter emails, which can be treated as temporary or to be used to create filters.
Alias Email can be created in the main online e-mail services :
  • Outlook
  • Gmail
  • Yahoo Mail
  • iCloud

Email alias on Outlook.com

If you use an email address provided by Microsoft Outlook, you can create an alias by going to the Outlook.com website and then pressing the gear icon (top right). Click the link to view all the settings, press on Mail and go to the section, then on Synchronize email to find the link, at the bottom, Manage or choose a main alias . Here you can add a new alias to your account, which can be any free address ending in @ outlook.it or @ outlook.com.
Returning to Outlook Web, messages sent to this new address will arrive in the inbox as messages received on the original address. The new address will appear as a sending option when composing a new message or replying to an email.
By pressing on the three dots at the top right of an incoming email, you can create a rule to set up a filter using this alias.
In addition, Outlook supports quick aliases with +. In practice, without having to configure anything, you can receive emails on your email address which comes to any address that is of the type: . The word to the right of the + can be anything. It is not possible to send messages using this type of alias, but there is nothing to configure and it is useful to quickly filter the newsletter inbox.

Alias Email on Gmail

In Gmail Google allows you to create completely new email addresses as aliases only in GMail on G Suite, but not in normal GMail.
In Gmail you can still create another email address by setting up a new account and then creating an automatic filter for sending messages to the main address (but it is a bit laborious).
Much more easily, in Gmail you can make sure that, if my address was , I could also receive emails on and any other address with the + or even on with the dot .
By creating a filter, you can mark the messages that arrive at this alias with the col + so that they are separated from the inbox or that they go directly to the trash. Unfortunately, some sites often do not support registration with email addresses with the +, so the alias with the dot comes in handy. An email address like can also be used in an equivalent way with the address or and so on, putting one or even more points where you want.
You cannot send email messages using these aliases, but you can receive them.
This gives a lot of flexibility when setting filters, which can be done by pressing the gear icon in Gmail and choosing Settings> Filters and Blocked Addresses . When creating a new filter, make sure that the To box includes the chosen email alias and mark these incoming messages as read or apply a label or mark them as low priority.

Alias Email on Yahoo Mail

Who has a mailbox with Yahoo Mail, can set up a temporary email to be used normally and to receive messages for as long as you want. To create aliases in Yahoo Mail, open the settings from the gear at the top right, then go to other settings and then to Mailboxes . With Yahoo you can only create an alias which however has functions to send and receive emails like that of Outlook.com. In addition, up to 500 disposable email addresses can be used which function as temporary addresses similar to Gmail, but with a dash; for example: , and so on.
Practically after the word chosen as base, Yahoo adds a - and then you can create as many addresses as you want and then delete them even a minute later.
The mail that is sent to that or those addresses, can be received on your main Yahoo mail address, or it can be automatically thrown in the antispam folder.

Alias Email on iCloud

Aliases can be created with Apple's email. on the iCloud website, go to the Post office, press the gear icon in the lower left corner, go to Preferences, then Accounts, press Add an alias . Here you can choose any email address and add up to three aliases per account.
Each Alias can have a different label, a different color to make it easier to recognize the messages received at this address. Messages can also be sent using these aliases, but cannot be used as an Apple ID.
Finally, I remember the guide to create filters in Gmail, Yahoo mail and Outlook, very important to use in combination with aliases.
Regarding the disposable email accounts, I remember the temporary and anonymous online email services seen in a previous article, which provide reception-only mailboxes, from which it is not possible to send email to someone using the temporary address. These addresses then automatically expire after a certain time and therefore it may be necessary to generate a new one every time.
