How to replace Siri on iPhone with a new voice assistant

Siri is the voice assistant integrated in all recent iPhones and allows you to make calls, write messages and obtain information using simply your voice. Siri is a good voice assistant, but it doesn't lack many features, present instead on its rivals Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
If we prefer to use these last two assistants, in this guide we will show you how to replace Siri on iPhone with a new voice assistant, so that you can benefit from Alexa's voice commands and the home automation controls offered by Google Assistant without necessarily having to use a Android phone for the purpose.
We will thus be able to choose from time to time the voice assistant to be launched and used, "bypassing" Siri (still always present on the iPhone).

How to replace Siri on iPhone

In order to replace Siri on the iPhone we will need to have an updated version of iOS : in fact, in order to launch other voice assistants without manually invoking the app we need iOS 12 or later. If we have never updated our iPhone, we advise you to first follow the suggestions proposed in our guide on How to update an iPhone .

How to replace Siri on iPhone with Google Assistant

If we want to use the Google Assistant voice commands (also known as Google Assistant in Italy), we must first download the Google Assistant app, available for iPhone and iPad.

Download the app, open it and log in with a Google, Gmail or YouTube account, so as to access our personalized voice assistant. As soon as we access the interface, we press the microphone at the bottom to try some voice commands, such as those described in our guide What Google Home can do: voice assistant, music and home automation .
Now we will have to configure Siri to launch the new assistant (we will have to go through it); open the Commands app, press on Create Quick command, press on Add action, select Assistant, select "Hey Google", press on the top right on Next and insert the command "Ok Google", so as to compose the voice command.

Now press on the top right on Finish to finish creating the command. Now all we have to do is say Hey Siri followed quickly by Ok Google, so we find ourselves with Google's voice assistant ready to use.
Currently Google Assistant is the only voice assistant that we can use hands-free, without necessarily having to open the app and start the voice command via the microphone icon. It is not entirely independent of Siri, but it is already something to be able to recall it from it.

How to replace Siri on iPhone with Amazon Alexa

If instead we wanted to use the commands already seen for the Amazon Echo, just download the Amazon Alexa app for iPhone and iOS.

We install the app, log in with the same Amazon account that we use on Echo or for online purchases and, once we reach the interface, we press the Alexa button (in the bottom center), to provide the necessary permissions to operate voice assistant.

Currently it is not possible to create a voice shortcut to start this assistant as already seen on Google Assistant: we will necessarily have to start the app in order to take advantage of Alexa commands.
The only shortcut applicable is to open the app from Siri "Hey Siri, open Amazon Alexa" and, once the app is open, press the blue button to start a voice search. The integration between Siri and Alexa will probably improve over time and with some targeted updates we can create the voice command to launch it directly from Siri.

How to replace Siri on iPhone with other voice assistants

The ones we have shown you so far are without a doubt the best voice assistants that we can use to replace (in part) Siri on the iPhone. However, other assistants can be downloaded from the App Store, less known and less precise but still usable to replace at least a part of the voice commands supported by Siri.

The best alternative voice assistants we can try on the iPhone are:
  1. Voice Assistant: a good all-rounder voice assistant;
  2. Voice Texting Pro: to dictate texts with voice;
  3. Custom Voice Commands: another valid app to create personalized voice commands.
None of these voice assistants offers the same quality seen on the assistants launched by Google and Amazon, perhaps only Cortana is saved but it is mainly valid for Web searches and for viewing data shared with a Windows 10 PC; to this we add that none of those reported in the list above offers support for commands directed by Siri, so we will always have to open the app first and then launch the hand voice command (losing much of the practicality in the use of voice commands) .

Conclusions

Giving up on Siri on the iPhone is not at all simple, since it is well integrated with the Apple environment; but using Google Assistant we can "replace" it easily thanks to the native support for personalized voice commands, from which we can launch a command that in fact "opens" the Google assistant from Siri and makes us speak only with him. For all the other voice assistants (including the Amaozn Alexa voucher) all that remains is to open the app (also with Siri) and press the right icon, so as to start one of the desired voice commands.
