How to uninstall Windows updates if they cause errors

Microsoft releases security updates for Windows every Tuesday to correct the latest bugs found on the system.
This is a good thing that prevents viruses and hackers from taking advantage of these system holes to break into a PC.
Unfortunately, however, due to the complexity of Windows and, above all due to the fact that Windows is installed on computers of all kinds, some updates may be faulty, causing new instability problems.
This is the case of some updates released in August which, for some, were the cause of BSOD error, the one that makes a blue screen appear and that shuts down the computer or even prevents it from starting.
Corrupt updates (which are initialed with the names KB2982791 and KB2976897 ) have therefore been withdrawn and Microsoft recommends that those who have already installed them uninstall them.
On this occasion we see how to uninstall Windows updates that cause errors or malfunctions, even if the computer no longer reboots normally.
To begin with, in case you find errors after an update, you can do the system configuration restore which is a quick way to solve.
To remove Windows patches and updates, installed through the Windows Update service, you need to open the uninstall programs window.
Then open the Control Panel and click on Uninstall a Program, under the item Programs or, in the complete list, Open Programs and Features .
In Windows 8, right click on the bottom left corner of the screen to find a quick link to this utility.
From the uninstall programs window, click on the link on the left " view installed updates ".
To search for updates to be removed you can use the search box and write the abbreviations (in this case KB2982791 and KB2976897 ) or search for them manually by sorting the updates by installation date (click on the column heading ( Installed on ).
Find the update " Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2982791) ", right click on it and then uninstall.
Windows may ask you to restart your PC to complete the operation.
Updates can also be uninstalled from the command line using the wusa tool.
In this case it is necessary to know the number of the patch that you want to remove and write it by hand.
Touch the Windows key, type cmd.exe, right click on the result and select Run as administrator to launch an elevated command prompt.
To remove an update, use the command:
wusa / uninstall / kb: 2982791 / quiet
The kb number must be replaced with the correct one.
If it is not possible to start Windows then you have to enter safe mode by pressing the F8 key during the initial boot process of the computer.
In safe mode then you can remove the updates as seen above.
On Windows 7, if you can see the advanced boot options, you can choose to use the " Starting Windows using Latest Safe Configuration " option which is a bit like system restore.
In Windows 8, to find the advanced boot options you have to select Troubleshoot -> Advanced options -> System Restore .
These errors are not frequent, but they can always happen.
It is therefore worth preparing for the next few times by creating a recovery disk that is much safer and easier to use.
In another article the guide to create USB drive as recovery disk in Windows 8 and 7.
In Windows 7 you can only create a recovery DVD while in Windows 8.1 only a USB drive.
