Everything you do on your computer can be recorded with programs just like you did on the VCR on TV. This is useful for saving videos that cannot be downloaded, for recording a game game (and maybe uploading the video to Youtube as some famous " Stars " do) or for creating tutorials to share with someone to explain, step by step., how do you do something.
The most basic computer screen recorders will do exactly this, they save every movement on the screen in a video, in some cases even recording the audio or giving the possibility to insert a shot from the webcam in a corner where you can comment in first person.
There are many possibilities to record videos from the desktop of the computer (on Windows, Mac and Linux PCs), with free solutions more or less simple and full of advanced options.
1) Without installing other programs, you can try the built-in game recording feature of Windows 10 first .
This feature doesn't work on everything, but it's very simple to try and doesn't require any configuration. In order to record the screen in Windows 10 you just need to open the start menu, start the app call XBox and then, leaving this application open in the background, press the Windows-G keys together to record. A message will ask if there is a game on the screen and, answering yes, shows a bar with a record button just to press.
After stopping the recording, the video is saved in the user folder of the videos. Unfortunately, in some cases and on some PCs, it will be written that the system requirements for the recording function are missing and the key will be disabled.

2) The best program to record the screen on the PC can be considered Camstudio, open source and free for all, although unfortunately not updated since 2013. Camstudio is one of the few programs without limitation and completely free, which allows you to save recordings in format AVI on your PC, without time limits, even with audio.
3) Ezvid is another program to create videos by recording the screen, already described in detail in a dedicated article. Thanks to its interface, Ezvid is very easy to use, with a built-in basic video editor, which also allows you to add images, change the video playback speed and make overlapping annotations. Ezvid also supports uploading videos to Youtube directly and adding comments to the video using the microphone.
4) Icecream Screen Recorder is another convenient alternative to record the screen of your Windows PC and Mac, with a free version which should be sufficient for most people. Icecream allows both to record videos from the desktop and from the webcam.
5) OBS, which stands for Open Broadcaster Software, is a completely free program for Windows, Mac and Linux, to record the PC screen and broadcast games to video games live on Youtube. Its best function is to be able to create a combined video between desktop and webcam, to comment out what is being done by filming from the computer camera.
OBS is one of the best programs for streaming PCs or recording games, webcams or desktops as well as XSplit.
6) FlashBack Express is another good Windows 10 screen recording program, available in a free version and capable of capturing movies from a webcam and from games. It is packed with features and tools despite being a free version of the paid FlashBack Pro program and does not add watermarks or impose time limits for recordings.
7) Active Presenter is a professional program that provides a free version to be used for home use. Active Presenter allows you to record videos from any part of the desktop, to record audio and sounds, without watermarks or time limitations, with the possibility of adding annotations and overlays, with support for different video formats and with a video and audio editor to fix the final movie.
8) TinyTake is another video capture and recording program from the screen, available for both Windows and Mac. With TinyTake, you can record videos from your computer screen, add comments, edits, annotations and share it, up to 120 minutes in the free version .
9) Electa is a small recording software for PC, with the characteristic of being able to record picture-in-picture from the webcam and with the function of adding a watermark or a logo to the video.
10) APowerSoft is a website that works without downloading anything and allows you to create screen recordings for as long as you want, even with the possibility to select the area of the screen to be recorded, to acquire audio and video simultaneously and even add annotations while you record.
11) SRecorder is a free software that records the desktop of the desktop PC into a high quality video and including audio. This program is perfect when users need to create video conferences, video presentations, game video recordings or chat.
12) Bandicam is a light and free screen recorder for Windows that can capture anything on your PC screen and save it as a high quality video as an AVI or MP4 file.
13) Rylstim Screen Recorder is another free app to make screen recording, simple, without complex options to configure.
14) Smartpixel is yet another program that works well for recording the screen, even with picture in picture, special effects and other ideal functions also for video gamers who want to share the videos of the games games on Youtube.
15) ScreencastOmatic is a web application that records the screen, which works without downloading any programs (except the Java plugin).
16) Acala Screen Recorder and Cute Screen Recorder are two other free programs for Windows that can be used to record the desktop, simple, light and without too many options.
