How to create a custom template on Word

By writing a document in Word, we realized when we waste time each time to set the sheet according to our tastes or the needs of the specific work to be done: for example, in order to write a report in the office, we always prefer to use the same font, the right margins and spaces for the spacing, while to write a letter we may prefer another style of writing.
Instead of repeating these boring steps every time, let's learn how to save our Word templates so that we can recall them at any time!
In this guide we will show you how to create customized Word templates according to our needs, so as to save time setting up the document each time.
If we don't have Office and Word on our PC, at the end of the guide we will show you how to create templates on LibreOffice, a free office suite.

1) How to create template on Word
To create template with Word, first of all we start the Word through its link in the Windows Start menu or by clicking on its icon on the desktop.
Once the empty document is opened we start to modify it by setting the characteristics that the model we intend to create must present.
Click on the Home menu and start to customize the font, select the writing font to be used by default instead of the standard Word font, set the text size and all the other customizations required.

In order to act constantly on all the sheets, we can also right-click anywhere in the document and open the Paragraph menu: here we can set other parameters that are very useful in creating our model.

In the window that will open, we can set the indents and the spacing of the text, adjust the line spacing and the space that must be present between one paragraph and another, the alignment, the structure of the text, the margins of the sheet and much other.
At the end of the configurations, click OK at the bottom to confirm.
If we want to create letterhead with Word (very useful in case of important documents, professional letters and state documents) and also add the logo of the company we work for, we can do it immediately by opening the Insert tab, clicking on the Header button and choosing the Empty item from the menu that appears.

The Header section will appear at the top of the document, all we have to do is clear the text box Enter the text and insert the logo, name, signature and all the information necessary to make the document template we are creating even more personal.
To insert an image in the header, click on the Image button in the Insert menu of Word and choose the photo, logo or image to be used on the personal letterhead.
We give the finishing touches to the model we are creating in the Layout and Design menus, then save this model by clicking on the File button at the top left, select the Save As item then click on the Browse button on the right side of the program.
Within the file management window that appears, select Word Template from the Save as drop-down menu, choose a name of your choice in the File name field, then save our Word template by clicking on the Save button.

From now on we can open this model by clicking on its name on the Word welcome screen or by opening it in the menu File -> New .
If we wanted to save our templates in order to export them to other computers, just know that the templates created with the steps described in this guide are saved by Word in the path " C: \ Users \\ Documents \ Custom Office Templates ".
If, on the other hand, we intend to modify one of the models offered by Office (so as not to start completely from scratch), we will only have to look for the right model in the menu File -> New, by typing the type of document we intend to use.
Once chosen we wait for the download and opening on Word, then customize it according to our needs; at the end of the changes we save the new model created as seen in the previous lines of the guide.
To download and add other templates to Office and Word, we recommend you read our dedicated guide -> Templates and Office Templates to download for Word, Excel and Powerpoint .
Adding them to our programs is very simple, as well as modifying them in order to adapt them to our writing needs at work.
