Change or cut the SIM-card for iPhone and as Micro-SIM

Thanks to Apple and its willingness to stand out from the rest, when buying a new iPhone it is necessary to put in it not a normal SIM of those that worked on old phones, but a NanoSIM, smaller, without plastic around.
Apple's NanoSIM is also different from microSIM, about half the size of a standard SIM, needed in other smartphone models such as the Nexus 5, Moto G and Lumia.
The problem with this diversity of SIM cards is that if you want to use another mobile phone instead of the iPhone or another one that has the Micro SIM, you will have to find a way to adapt the card and enlarge it to fit it into the slot.
Conversely, if you have a normal smartphone or mobile phone with a standard SIM, you will need to make the card smaller in order to insert it into the iPhone or other phones that want MicroSIM .

To cut it without special tools, you can cut it manually.
To do this you need to have:
- A SIM adapter or printer (colored or black and white) with an A4 sheet
- A tape
- A ruler and markers
- Good scissors
- Patience and precision
The sheet with the shapes of the small SIM cards can be downloaded and then printed from the PDF Archive site.
It will then be necessary to draw the lines to be cut on the SIM by placing it on the sheet and following the lines drawn and then cutting the outer edge with scissors, taking extreme care.
Ideally, sandpaper can be used to smooth corners.
When cutting, in addition to having a firm and precise hand, you must be careful not to cut a piece of the chip, which must remain intact.
If you already had an adapter to put the MicroSIM on a normal mobile phone, you can also try drawing the lines to be cut by placing the adapter on top of the SIM even if it is more difficult to be precise.
With the A4 sheet indicated above, you can also cut a MicroSIM to make it a NanoSIM, even if the thickness to be removed is really small and it is more difficult to cut.
If you don't feel confident or want to avoid damaging the SIM by making it unusable, I recommend, as I did later (who I'm not good at precision operations), to go to the first physical store of your telephone operator and change the card directly .
The replacement cost of MiroSIM or NanoSIM is 10 Euros with all operators: Tre, Vodafone, Wind and TIM.
Once you buy the new SIM to use on the iPhone or on another smartphone with MicroSIM, it is delivered with the included adapter, so you can use it on a standard mobile phone.
The adapter is the plastic edge around the chip, which should be kept after removing the small SIM.
The problem with changing the SIM (and also the risk of cutting the SIM badly and breaking it) is that the telephone numbers stored inside it are lost.
Before making the change or trying the cut, you must therefore save the address book in the mobile phone memory, opening the contacts section and importing them, from the options, into the mobile phone.
You can then transfer the address book from one mobile phone to another with online backup
The MicroSIM or the NanoSIM fits into the smartphone by placing it inside the housing which is always a kind of recognizable drawer, on one side of the mobile phone, on a slightly raised edge.
To extract the drawer, you need to use the small spiked key that is in the package of the phone or you can also use the thin tip of a paperclip.
