Block unwanted emails in Gmail from specific addresses

Cleaning up your inbox can become a really tedious and time consuming job if there are too many spam and unwanted messages.
Fortunately, the best email services provide their own spam filter, which is used to filter messages from automatic bots or repetitive and commercial newsletters in a special folder dedicated to junk.
Gmail is even more efficient in this, with the ability to sort social messages, newsletters and updates, forum and commercial messages into different and automatic folders.
In addition to spam and automatic folders, in Gmail it is also possible to block unwanted emails from specific email addresses, even if not reported by the spam filter.
As we do with the " block list " on the mobile phone, to prevent selected numbers from calling us, in this guide we see how to block emails from specific email addresses .

In the following lines we will show you how to easily block any type of spam or annoying users and how to create customized filters for some writing schemes.
We remind you that we can access or register at the Google mail address from here -> Gmail .
1) Block an email contact on Gmail
If we receive too much mail from a recent or long-standing contact, we can block the reception of new messages by opening the last email sent by the same and, in the menu with the three dots next to the indication of the date (top right), select the Block item.

A confirmation window will now appear, in which we will be asked whether to move all future messages from that address into the Spam folder; we give our consent by clicking Block .
If the message is explicitly spam, we can also use the button of the same name in the upper bar of the email received, that is, Report as spam, so as to block messages faster and update Google filters in real time, so as to help others users who fall victim to that address.

Whatever the road taken, the contact indicated or will no longer be able to send us any email with that address; to unlock any users blocked "by mistake", let's go to the Spam folder, look for a recent message from the contact (remember that the folder is emptied regularly every 30 days), click again on the three dots next to the indication of the date and now and let's use the Unblock and Report as non-phishing item .
2) Filter unwanted messages
The most adept spammers could very well get around our "block" by changing their email address (they can even generate 1000 of them in a second!), But they hardly change the body of the text or some of the most used keywords to "bite" users .
We can use these schemes to create custom filters, so that every email that contains one or more elements in common (even with different addresses) will be effectively filtered by Gmail.
To create a filter, open the offending email, click on the three dots at the top of the toolbar and select the item Filter messages of this type .

A new window will open where you can correctly set the filter, indicating any known email addresses and, much more effective, indicating the subject, words contained and words to be ignored (as well as attachments, skills and chats).

Once these items have been set, we click on Search to test the quality of the filter on all our emails (only the offending ones should appear and no legitimate emails); at the end of the text, click on Create filter and, in the window that appears, select what to do with the emails drawn by the filter (we recommend setting Delete ).

Now all we have to do is confirm the creation of the filter by clicking on Create filter .
Obviously, this filtering system can also be used to move some emails to other categories or to a special folder created by us, so that we can reread them calmly (maybe we receive over 100 emails per hour and we prefer to read the most important ones first, in one separate category).
To delete a filter created just click on the gear symbol, present at the top right of each message, select the Settings item and go to the Blocked filters and addresses tab.
3) How to block emails with BlockSender
In addition to setting the filters by hand, we can be helped by some extensions to think for Gmail, so that we can filter more effectively and faster.
For example, the BlockSender extension for Google Chrome can add a few more options to blocking Gmail.

It will also be possible to set up a false reply message, perhaps written in English, of failed sending and return of the email to make the person who sent the email believe that our email address no longer exists.
Obviously, the sender will not be notified that the message has been deleted directly or put in the trash.
In addition to blocking the sender, it is also possible to block senders who have the address of a certain domain, messages with the same subject or even which contain a word or phrase; obviously blocked addresses can be unblocked at any time from the extension options.
4) Block emails with mail clients
If we use clients such as Thunderbird or Outlook to read mail, we can also set filters on these programs to clean once and for all the email box from junk mail or from the annoying emails.
