Listening to the reading of websites

With Firefox, Edge and Chrome you can listen to the written content that is inside a web page, be it a guide, a blog article or a newspaper. This function can be enabled thanks to two alternative plugins, one lighter and another of higher quality. Both support the Italian language and this is decisive for us, otherwise a word would not be understood.
NOTE: The extensions to read sites with Google Chrome are in another article, here are those for Firefox.
UPDATE: On Edge and Firefox it is possible to activate the reading by voice of the websites without extensions, in a similar way.
In Firefox, open a page like this, with a written article, then press the key on the reading mode address bar (or press the F9 key on the keyboard). In reading mode, you can then press the Read aloud button located on the right side.
In Microsoft Edge, too, with a newspaper or blog article, you can press the top key of the read mode and then the Read key aloud .
The first plugin is Text To Voice allows you to listen to the oral reading of any text displayed on the internet via Firefox .
It places an icon in the Firefox status bar from which you select the item to use for reading. If you select a text, you can press the right mouse button and choose to read it on the computer by pressing "Speak It". An audio player appears on the page which reproduces the selected text in human voice.
The quality of the Italian voice, although understandable, is not exactly exceptional because it is very robotic and a little fast and sometimes tends to eat the last letters of the words. The level is still acceptable and above all useful if you want to read an article while doing something else. You can also download the spoken text as mp3 to your computer from the audio player. This way you could copy the mp3 to the portable player and listen to the Navigaweb.net articles in the car or during waiting periods.
Since, as already seen, you can publish texts for free on the internet in a single web page, with the content you want, even anonymously and without registration, I think how useful it can be to convert that text into voice .
Another Firefox plugin allows you to listen to the reading of web pages directly by browsing the internet.
TTS Reader works in a similar way and allows you to listen to the reading of the text selected on the web page. This is definitely a better Text-To-Voice program, especially as regards the quality of the Italian voice included in the free version. Although robotic, the voice speaks by distancing the words, without running and clearly distinguishing the letters and the pronunciation of the accents.
In reality for us Italians you can use a different program called Vivo that we have already talked about in the article on the PC that speaks and reads the words on the screen.
Vivo, among its many support functions for those who do not see us well, also has the reading of web pages and uses a much more human speech synthesis.
If you want to deepen the speech, you can read the post on the best free text to speech programs .
Finally, I remember the TTS apps for Android, also useful for listening to the reading of websites and among which the Google Go app stands out
