YouTube Studio to create videos and add effects, photos, writings

Those who lived the first period with YouTube, was well aware that in order to get good videos it was necessary to edit them directly on the PC before uploading: we could use both extremely expensive programs such as Vegas Pro and use the myriad of free programs designed for the purpose. Fortunately, all these steps are superfluous, given that Google has added a video editor to YouTube that allows, in fact, to create videos with photos and music, cut videos, add effects and changes of various types in a simple and affordable for everyone, without having to use a program installed on your computer.
Let's see together how to use YouTube Studio to create videos and add effects, photos, writings and all other video-editing operations that can make our video truly one of a kind.

How to use YouTube Studio

To use the online video editing tool, all we have to do is access the YouTube Studio page and log in with any Google account (the account used on YouTube itself is fine but also a Gmail account or an account created for Android ).

First launch of YouTube Studio

At the first start it will ask us to create our channel, so that we can unlock access to the video editor; then insert name and surname where required and click on Create channel at the bottom.

After creation we will have access to all our videos already uploaded to the account; if we want to immediately upload a new video to edit, just click on the camera button at the top right ( Create a video or post -> Upload video ).

After uploading a video, we press on its name in the video list (accessible also by clicking on the left bar on the Video button) to open the editing screen. All the various editor options are available in the left bar:
  • Details : allows you to edit the video name, tags, description, cover image, license type and the addition of other useful details such as recording date, age limits and location of the video.
  • Data and analysis : in this screen we can check the progress of the videos already published, so as to find out how much appreciation and how long users remain on our videos.
  • Editor : in this screen we will have the real editor, with which we will be able to resize videos, add the final screen, add music, cut the video and much more (as we will see in the dedicated chapter).
  • Comments : allows you to check the comments entered by users and to filter unwanted ones (we can also disable them completely).
  • Transcriptions : if we want to add custom subtitles to our video, this is the screen for you.
  • Other functions : here we find other useful menus to activate the YouTube automatic translation and the menu to promote the video and earn with Adsense .

Obviously for this guide we will focus on the features offered by the Editor menu, which contains all the video editing tools offered by YouTube.

YouTube Studio Editor mode

Once the video to be edited has been selected, click on the Editor menu in the left sidebar to open the YouTube edit menu.

A screen similar to the non-linear editors that we can download on PC will open, with a timeline at the bottom where there is all the video plus some options for cutting the video and for adding effects and audio (additional timeline bars).
Cutting a part of the video is very simple: we press the Cut button and choose the part of the video to be cut, dragging the edges present at the beginning and at the end of the video; to increase the precision we can also use the Split button at the bottom to be able to create the various parts of videos to be deleted. To confirm we click on Preview at the bottom and finally on
To add background music or completely change the audio of the video, expand the Audio bar of the timeline, click on Audio and choose, in the new window that will open, which song to add from those offered by YouTube (all without copyright, so as to avoid nasty surprises with the majors).
If instead we wanted to add a final screen with other suggestions to our videos, we click on the Add a final screen bar, we choose the theme with which to end our video and finally the contents to be shown.
To add a blur to protect a face, a plate or a point of the video, just press the Add blur bar, choose between the items Blur faces or Custom blur and apply the effect to our video.
During our changes, we can cancel them at any time by clicking on the Cancel button at the top; if instead we want to repeat an operation, just use the Repeat button; to cancel all the changes made in a single stroke, just press Cancel changes .
Once the desired changes have been made, we can make them effective by clicking on the Save button at the top. In case we want to download a modified version of the video on our PC (to keep it or to watch it offline) just click on the top three dots next to the video title and use the Download button.

Conclusions

As we have seen, YouTube Studio offers everything you need to better manage the videos we upload on our channel, with the possibility of making simple changes to the videos without having to use any additional program (just upload the video to YouTube and proceed with the internal editor).
But the alternatives to Youtube Editor are not lacking and, in this regard, we recommend you read our guide on sites to create videos with photos, images, music and special effects . If we are looking for a professional way to be able to join and cut pieces of video, we recommend you read our guide to join and cut videos, where we talked about some excellent free PC programs. If we want to quickly improve videos before uploading them, we can also follow the suggestions proposed in our article on How to improve videos to upload them on Youtube or Facebook .
