How to forward emails automatically to Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo Mail and iCloud

On any email service it is possible to create filters and automatic rules in order to sort e-mail messages so that those from a specific sender or that contain a certain word in the title are cataloged and grouped together. Using the filters it is possible, for example, to save the newsletter or Facebook emails all together so that you can easily find them by clicking on the relative label. In addition to this very useful function, we can also use the automatic forwarding of all incoming messages, so as to divert them to another email box. This allows you to use different mailboxes by sending all the messages only in one of them: if for example we go on vacation but we must receive important emails from the corporate email address, we can forward all the emails that arrive to the latter to our private address.
We see in this guide how to configure an automatic forwarding based on some rules on Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo Mail and iCloud Mail, that is the most used email services.

Set up automatic forwarding on Gmail

To configure automatic forwarding on Gmail, we open the Google email service page, log in with our credentials if necessary, click on the top right on Settings (gear symbol) and then on the item Settings .

In the settings window, go to the Forwarding and POP / IMAP tab, then click Add forwarding addresses .

We add the forwarding email and confirm; from now on all the emails received will be forwarded automatically to the indicated email address.
If we want to forward only a certain type of email (for example only those received by a specific sender or that contain certain words), we open one of the emails to be used as a template for the filter, then click on the three dots at the top right and select Filter messages of this type .

In the new window that we will see we check the filter settings (sender, object, contains the words and so on), press on Create filter and, in the new screen, we tick the item Forward it.

To confirm the operation, click below on Create filter . From now on, only emails compatible with the filter settings will be forwarded to the configured email address.

Configure automatic forwarding on Outlook

If we use Outlook as an e-mail service, open its website, log in with our credentials if necessary, click on Settings (gear) at the top right and go to the path View all Outlook settings -> Forwarding .

We apply the check mark on the item Enable forwarding and insert the e-mail address in which to send all the e-mails in the Forward e-mail to field . If we wish to keep a copy of the emails forwarded through the service, we also tick the Keep a copy of forwarded messages box .
If we want to forward only a certain type of messages (by sender, by subject, by content etc.), we open an email to be used as the basis for the rule, then click on the top three dots and select Create rule .

In the window that will open, click on Other options, check that the conditions proposed for the filter are congruent with our forwarding needs, click on the drop-down menu under the Add an action section and select the Forward to item.

An empty field will open on the right of the drop-down menu, where we will have to enter the forwarding address. Once the filter is configured, we click Save at the top to make it immediately operational.

Set up automatic forwarding on Yahoo Mail

If you use the e-mail service offered by Yahoo, we open the Yahoo Mail page, log in with our credentials then click on the gear symbol at the top right, then go to the path Other settings -> Mailboxes mail . In the new screen we select the Yahoo email address that we are using at the moment, scroll in the last box on the right until you find the Forwarding section.

We then enter the address on which to forward the emails in the text field, click on Verify to check the correct insertion then click on the bottom Save . Now all emails will be forwarded automatically.
If we only want to forward a certain type of email, we inform you that Yahoo Mail does not currently offer this option, so we will have to settle for full forwarding.

Configure automatic forwarding on iCloud Mail

If instead we use the integrated mail service on iPhones and Macs, we can configure forwarding by going to the main iCloud page, logging in with our credentials, selecting the Mail icon, pressing the gear symbol in the bar side and then selecting Preferences . In the General section, we activate the check mark next to the Forward my emails to item, then type the forwarding address in the text field.

If we don't want to store a copy of each forwarded message in iCloud, we select Delete messages after forwarding them . Doing this will decrease the available iCloud storage space, so consider carefully whether to keep the option active. To confirm, simply click on Save at the bottom.
If, on the other hand, we want to forward only a certain type of message, select the Actions icon (gear), choose Rules and click on Add a rule . In the new window we specify the criteria of the rule (if the message comes from a certain sender, contains a certain object or body etc.), go to the Then section and configure the Forward to item, so that we can forward to a specific email address.

After completing the configuration, click Save to confirm the changes.

Conclusions

As we have been able to see forwarding emails automatically on Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo Mail and iCloud Mail is quite simple, you just need to know exactly where to click and where to configure the forwarding address. We can both configure full forwarding and forward only the most important or interesting emails, so as to apply a good filter to all the emails we receive daily.
