Tricks for the Fire Tablet: customize it without ads and with all the apps

Among the best-selling tablets, while the market is rather firm, only one name has always been present for several years: the Amazon Tablet Fire. The commercial success of this tablet can be explained very easily, it is not that it is the best of all from a technical point of view, only that it costs so little as to make its purchase almost mandatory, especially in moments of offers such as Black Friday or Prime day (just think that at the time of writing this is 50 Euros).
The Fire Tablet, which can be purchased on Amazon in one of the two 7 or 8-inch versions, is sold at a very low price because it is supported by advertisements and by the promotion of Amazon's services such as Shopping, books, films and everything the rest. In addition, even if it is for all intents and purposes an Android tablet, the Fire does not have the Google Play Store, although it is possible to install the various applications with an alternative store.
In this guide we therefore see tricks to optimize and customize the Fire tablet, remove advertisements and other elements and then install new applications beyond those of the Amazon store .

Remove advertisements, special offers and unnecessary icons from the Fire Tablet

Removing the "New Items" section allows you to do some cleaning on the main screen: In Settings, you can go to Apps and notifications and then to Amazon App Settings to select the Home screen. Here you can disable the option showing new items.
Remove special purchase offers : In most Fire Tablet screens there are sections full of things like books, music and items to buy. Most of the time they actually appear to be advertisements that take up space and can be annoying. While purchasing the Fire tablet in the version with special offers it would not be possible (via options) to remove its ads on the lock screen or on other sections such as videos, it is still possible to limit the appearance of offers and recommendations by going to Settings> Apps and notifications> Amazon app and then, in the Home screens section, by deactivating the option. Going now to sections such as that of books, you will notice that the section of recommendations and advice is no longer displayed.
Remove the search bar : The search bar can be deactivated and hidden by going to Settings> Device options, where you can customize the search bar and deactivate it in the lock screen.
Hiding miscellaneous content on the home screen : Some of the items on the various home screens may be hidden. For example, by touching one of the books in the Library and holding your finger, a small menu will appear that allows you to remove it from Home, that is, from the main screen. The item has not been deleted from the device, it simply will not appear on the home screen. The same goes for the apps listed in the Recent Apps section.

Remove special offers and advertisements on the lock screen

By purchasing the Fire Tablet in the " with special offers " version, you pay less but you must accept the presence of advertisements that invite the user to buy new things based on previous purchases.
If you are tired of these special offers, you can remove the ads at any time by paying the difference between the version with advertising and the one without. To do this, go to the Amazon website also from the PC, then click on My Account and look for the Content and devices link. Under the devices section, you should find the Fire Tablet with an options button from which you can remove special offers.
You can also remove advertisements in other ways, by looking for things like Google Ad Amazon Remover Tool on Google that can be used via ADB commands from your PC (without root). Having not tried the procedure, I cannot however describe it in detail here.

Useful customizations for the Fire Tablet

Changing the wallpaper : By going to Settings, you can tap on the Display options to find the selection of wallpapers available. If you want to use a photo stored on the tablet, you can choose it from these settings.
Group Notifications : To keep the notification bar a little tidier, you can group all the notifications into one by going to Settings> Apps and notifications . In the Notifications section, locate the Compress notifications option and enable it.
Grouping apps : A newly purchased Fire Tablet is already full of pre-installed app icons. To make order and cleanliness on the main screen, it is convenient to group the various applications by dragging the various icons on each other. Touch one, hold and then drag and drop it over another app icon. This creates an application folder and you can also drag other icons onto it. In this way it will be possible to create various collections based on the categories or their tastes to which it is possible to give a name to recognize them.
Enlarge or reduce the font of the lettering : You can increase or decrease the font size in the Amazon Fire home screens by touching the Settings icon and then going to the accessibility options.

Tricks to optimize the Fire Tablet

Expand the memory : One of the shortcomings of the low-end Amazon Fire tablets is the space limited to 16 GB in the newer models (the old ones only had 8 GB of space). Luckily it is possible to expand the memory with a MicroSD card even 256 GB, inserting it in the slot on the side.
Once the microSD card is inserted, apps can be moved to additional storage using the option found in the storage settings. You can also go to Music> Menu> Settings> Transfer all music offline to transfer music to SD card.
For other tricks, I refer to the guide to optimize Android, which also applies to the Fire Tablet.

Install applications from the Google Play store

While it is still possible to install the Google Play Store on the Fire Tablet (even without root), the easiest way to install Android applications without limitations (therefore going beyond the Amazon app store) is to install alternative stores such as Apptoide.
To install AppToide it is necessary to download the installation file (APK) from the Aptoide.com website. To install the app, you are required to go to Settings> Security and activate the Unknown sources option. As you can see, in Apptoide you will find practically all the applications that are also in the Google Play Store, including Gmail, other launchers to customize the main screen and so on.
