The Google Maps application now has a new function, on Android and iOS smartphones, which allows you to find the points of interest closest to your position . This is especially useful whenever you go somewhere, on vacation in a new place or even just in the city center.
The function that allows you to find the best places in the area can be activated immediately by touching the button at the bottom right, next to the circle to frame your position.
The navigation function of Google Maps works in an "intelligent" way in the sense that, depending on where you are and based on the time, various types of places are recommended such as restaurants, ice cream parlors, fast food restaurants, museums, cinemas and more .
For example, in the afternoon the nearby ice cream shops will be recommended while in the evening the pubs.
The function is therefore attentive to the context and offers different results depending on the time of day and also according to weather conditions .

For best results it is necessary to keep the internet connection activated, the location via networks (the low consumption one) and, above all, the history.
To activate history and geolocation, open Maps, swipe right to open the main menu and open options.
The application then learns from user preferences by recommending interesting places based on those searched previously.
With this new feature, Google Maps becomes more similar to other specialized apps such as Foursquare and Yelp, both useful for exploring nearby places and reading reviews.
A blue dot also appears on the map which is where you are at the moment.
By touching the blue dot in the center of the map, you can open a window with the closest interesting places, so you can also read the reviews of the restaurants around.
By tapping on Explore you enter the " Near you " section.
The Explore section can also be accessed from the search bar.
By default, the marked places are an estimated 10 minutes away by car,
This can be changed by putting, for example, 5 minutes on foot.
The indication of the best places is quite complete because it is based on local Google pages.
Finally, it should be noted that in the new version of the Google Maps application for Android and iOS, the download of offline maps has been even more simplified.
