After the most used Whatsapp messaging service on Sunday stopped and stopped working for about 4 hours, many users downloaded and installed an alternative app to send messages. Instead of Whatsapp, about 5 million people have signed up for Telegram, a very similar app that has a key feature: it ensures the privacy of every conversation and prevents chats from being spied on or watched from the outside.

Telegram is the messaging service created by Nikolai and Pavel Durov, the two brothers behind the largest social network in Russia, VKontakte (which is obscured in Italy).
What distinguishes Telegram from other messaging platforms such as Whatsapp and the like is the fact that it is cloud-based and encrypted .
This essentially means three things:
1) Telegram is faster, because it has a decentralized structure of the servers, so that each user connects to the closest one.
2) Telegram is safe because the connections are all encrypted and impossible to "sniff" on the network.

Whatever the device used to chat on Telegram, the data, the address book and all the conversations will be synchronized and visible for a user.
Telegram works as a Whatsapp, with the registration via mobile phone number and address book that updates automatically according to the registered friends (there is no need for authorization therefore, just having the friend's number registered in the mobile address book).
Telegram also allows you to send photos, videos and files of all kinds up to 1.5 GB and to make group chats .
You can also use a chat mode whereby all messages are self-destructed at the end of the conversation.
The app is completely free and does not provide for subscriptions of any kind.
