Search on Twitter and filter tweets and lists

Most people who approach Twitter for the first time don't understand anything. The fact is that Twitter presents itself with a flood of news, status updates, images and now even videos, mixed together, often repetitive and above all very numerous.
Here then that following too many people can become a prohibitive undertaking and even being behind all the updates and the latest news without getting lost can become a terribly tiring job.
In this article we will see how to better manage Twitter, how to exploit lists, how to use searches also with external applications.

1) When starting with Twitter, there are two possible strategies: that of following only a few selected accounts and that of adding many people hoping that they will reciprocate, so as to have many followers and become "popular".
Especially in this second case, the lists to organize the flow of Twitter become fundamental.
If you follow too many people or too many news sources, the flow updates so fast that it becomes impossible to read everything.
To filter only the one that interests you most, you can then create a list in which to include only some of the accounts followed, perhaps those that talk about a certain topic of interest. Each list has its own unique link so you can open Twitter only to read what is written by the members of a list, leaving the main stream confused and mixed. You can view the lists created by any Twitter client, on the web or on smartphones and applications. To add a Twitter account to a list, click on the little man button and then on the Add or remove option from the lists. You can then select an existing list or create a new one.
Lists can be public or private: if they are public, other people can subscribe to that list. However, keep in mind that the accounts within a list do not even need to follow them.
2) Especially if you follow a few accounts and keep the flow clean, to fully enjoy the information power of Twitter, in addition to creating lists, searches can be saved .
Every time you do a search on Twitter you will see all the updates in real time that mention that word or hashtag.
For example, if you want to know what is said about Grillo or Berlusconi or if you want to follow the comments for a television broadcast like Ballarò, PiazzaPulita or Public Service, you can do the search.
By pressing the gear button, you can save the search so as to resume it whenever you want and make it appear automatically when you press on the top bar of the searches.
Saved searches are also visible in applications like Plume for Android, for me the best for tablets.
You can also use advanced search to refine your searches.
3) To do research, if you don't like the one inside Twitter, you can also use an external service like Twazzup which is, in my opinion, the best tool for following Twitter updates in real time for a given topic.
For example, try searching for the word "Grillo" (it is not political propaganda but it is to take one of the most discussed characters on the net, for better or for worse).
On Twazzup you can read on the same page: the top tweets, the top influencers or the most popular accounts that speak of Grillo, the 10 top links or the most tweeted web pages and then, on the right, the tweets that appear in real time.
Even a number appears above the column of tweets indicating how many tweets are sent with the word searched every hour.
With Twazzup you can search by putting the Italian language.
4) The best application to use Twitter on your computer is TweetDeck which allows you to view Twitter in columns.
The screen can be divided into columns, each of which has different updates: a search, mentions, main flow, list etc.
TweetDeck also allows you to create collections of Tweets to share on your site.
TweetDeck is also the best app to access all social networks together
5) To read the flow of accounts followed on Twitter in a different way, nicer and easier to see, you can use the Tweetedtimes application, truly spectacular.
In practice, the flow is put into a graphical interface similar to that of a newspaper, with horizontal rather than vertical scrolling and which highlights the most popular tweets, therefore without chronological order. From the button at the top left you can create a new newspaper based on another account or based on a search.
Similar to TweetedTimes, more used and simpler with classic vertical scrolling is Paper.ly, to read Twitter as a newspaper that automatically updates itself with each new tweet.
6) TwitLamp is a new Twitter vision .
Connect your account to Twitlamp and order the flow of photos, videos, music, links, text and hashtags. TwitLamp is the cleanest way to divide the flow of Twitter into the various objects and filter by type of tweet. You can also see the mentions and personal tweets.
Unfortunately, the free version only updates after 20 minutes with new tweets so Twitlamp cannot really be used as the main client to browse Twitter unless you pay for the Pro version.
7) If you follow many accounts that talk about various topics, you can always filter the flow by hiding the tweets that talk about a certain topic.
With the Chrome Open Tweet Filter extension you can specify some words that should never appear on your stream.
