Video editing has never been addressed in this blog directly but only with online video editing web applications which, although excellent, are not programs and are limited, by definition, by the fact that you need an internet browser to use them. The best free and free program to make a video montage at home and beyond is certainly the famous Windows Movie Maker, a software that Microsoft has neglected for some time until, in this month, version 14 was released, improved, more stable and faster to use.
Windows Movie Maker is installed by default on all PCs together with Windows and is always found in the accessories in the "Start" menu.
NOTE: While the program can still be used, Microsoft has still closed support since January 2017.
To download Windows Movie Maker from 2017 you must therefore download Windows Essentials, so you can then choose to install Movie Maker latest version.
The Movie Maker works on Windows 7, Windows 10 and Windows 8 while for those who use Vista and XP there is no new version and the old 2.1 for XP and 2.6 for Vista remains.
The download of Movie Maker can be done from the Major Geeks website.
During installation, you can choose which programs to include, then you must deselect everything except Microsoft Photo Gallery to also include Movie Maker .

But what good is Windows Movie Maker "> creating photo slideshows and video presentations.
In another post, I preferred other alternative programs such as Pinnacle VideoSpin, because I personally consider WMM too laborious and impractical in making video photo presentations.
Its practical application and its strength instead comes out in case you want to make a video montage using the films shot with your video camera .
To start editing, beautifying and editing the video, first of all you have to attach and connect the camera to the computer via USB.

Afterwards, start Windows Movie Maker and, in the left bar of the program, you can click on the "Capture from video device" item.

So if a single movie of the holidays has been recorded on the cassette you can save everything together but if the cassette had already been used for some high video, maybe you will have to choose where to start saving the movie on your computer.
At the end of the procedure you can save the video shot by the video camera on the computer and you can easily manage and edit it because it is divided into smaller clips .
To edit the video and diversify it by combining the different scenes, you can then drag it down, in the timeline, compose the new movie.
Pressing the "Show Timeline" button you can add graphic effects, background music and credits to the film .
With the magnifying glass you can zoom in to the timeline of the video and in adding additional elements you can decide, per second, where to insert them and in which scene of the video.
I recommend, before editing the video, deleting scenes and adding effects, to first save the video as a backup and then play it by doing the experiments you want.
Movie Maker is a software different from VirtualDub or others that instead allow you to make video editing more professional but more complicated.
Windows Movie Maker is proposed for a user who wants to do things easy and in a guided way, without big demands, only to embellish a video and edit the scenes by cutting the unwanted parts.
The problem with the Microsoft program has always been the heaviness and slowness of the processes that often bore and frustrate.
In the latest version, which does not work on Windows XP, there is a marked improvement, you can create a movie with photos, videos and music in 30 seconds, you can publish the video directly on the internet, it integrates with YouTube and Facebook and there are so many transition effects and extra graphics.
