Opera Unite with Webserver and Turbo

Update: The latest version of Opera can be downloaded without the Opera Unite server function.
Opera Unite is the number 10 version of the least famous among the most used browsers in the world to surf the internet.
This browser is announced as the program that reinvents the internet and, if this is not, of course, true, it must be said that Opera brings some innovations that make it unique among browsers.

Someone will wonder what is the use of having 4 software that do the same thing; the answer is that each of them does it differently.
Google Chrome is, for me, the best browser (recently also released for Linux and Mac as a test version) and I would set it as the default browser by default.
Firefox is always needed because its add-ons (which now also work on Chrome) allow operations that are not feasible with others, bypassing the limits of the sites, modifying them and also extremely personalizing navigation.
Since there are so many plugins, Firefox gets heavier and gets a little slow so I wouldn't put it as the default for normal website viewing.
Internet Explorer 7 or 8, I would hardly use it anymore if not to visit those old internet pages that with other browsers look bad.
Safari I never mention it because it is the browser of Apple and although very fast, for me it still does not have the experience and skills of others.
We finally come to Opera 10.5 which adds two important features to the browser: the "Turbo" speed and a web server that allows everyone to share an online space .
Opera Turbo is a compression technology so that the websites and web pages you visit load in less time.
Basically we talk about optimization on the reception of data that is filtered by a server so that the browser compresses elements such as images, flash animations or multimedia applications, which load slowly.
The end result is a lowering of the loading times of any web page at the price of a lowering of the graphic quality.
For example, loading www.navigaweb.net with Opera Unite activating the Turbo, it happens that all the images, including the header at the top, are seen grainy and with less colors, moreover the flash animation on the right does not appear automatically but is replaced by a "play" button which can be clicked or not.
The convenience of using the turbo function lies in the connection speed you have: if you surf with a 56K modem Opera Turbo becomes a salvation, if you are connected in optical fiber instead no optimization is necessary and the greater speed becomes less evident .
In fact, what has been done in a much more thorough way has been implemented on Opera Mini, the best mobile browser there is.
To enable the Turbo function, you can press a small button at the bottom left or the tools menu -> Quick Preferences.
You can also set Opera Turbo to start automatically when the browser feels that the web page resides on a slow server.
The second feature of this Opera Unite 10, on the other hand, is not so innovative in itself, but it makes something simple and affordable for many that many may have always considered complicated.
Put simply, you can enable a web server on your computer so that you can easily open a personal web page, accessible from all over the world.
On this space you can share your computer files, music and videos, images and photos .
In particular, there is space up to 10 GB to upload and share photos and you can stream your favorite music by creating a kind of personal online radio.
You can use this internet page to write like a blog, to get messages from others and to share documents.
Indeed, if you have a real website, you can enable viewing of the website in one click.
Potentially, if you had a computer always on with Opera active, you could have a real webserver on which to run a website, even if not with a custom domain, ideal for testing.
To enable the server function you need to go to the Tools button at the top and then to "Opera Unite Server".
A quick registration is required with which you can enable the personal internet address which will be of the type: pomhey.operaunite.com.
Each pc that is used by the same person can be a server of the same domain and you will have, for example, casa.pomhey.operaunite.com which indicates the shared space of the home pc while I work.pomhey.operaunite.com indicates what there is on the computer I work.
These addresses work and are reachable from all over the world if, among the settings, they have been made public (you can choose to make them private and visible only to the user) and if the computer is on and with Opera open.
If Opera is closed, the server does not work and if you try to visit those addresses, "device Unavailable" is written.
Other functions include private and anonymous or private browsing, a new graphics engine, the " Fridge " which is practically a blog where you can write and where other people can leave messages and " The Lounge " instead is a private chat in which you can invite people to participate.
Conclusions : Opera Unite becomes a program in which the fact of surfing the internet is only one of its utilities, which becomes indicated above all for those who have slow connections and can take advantage of Opera Turbo, for those who work in the IT field to always keep their files at your fingertips and for web developers who can use an easy and immediate to configure web server.
For all the others, being a very valid browser, fast and full of functions, I can only advise you to try it, especially if they have never done it, because it works well, it is safe and can easily replace the slow Internet Explorer.
