Best Backup Apps for Android

Backup is an essential and fundamental operation for all the devices we use on a daily basis: computers, tablets and even smartphones.
In the latter case, it is even more important to make backups in order not to lose the address book and all the phone numbers of the friends, the SMS sent and received over time, the photos taken, the videos and the applications installed.
In this article we are going to find out which are the best applications for backing up Android that allow you to save any type of data or file, on a PC or on a Cloud space.
Using these apps (together with the backup services integrated within Google services or with compatible apps) we will not lose even an important data on our smartphone, even in the event of a sudden breakdown or malfunction.

Speaking of Android smartphones, we already know that with access to the Google account, the address book, settings and other configuration data are saved in order to be restored in case you go to use a new phone.
We talked in another article about how to transfer and save contacts on Android and synchronize the address book .
As for photos, however, we have found how you can use Google Photos with unlimited backup from Android, iPhone and PC which is really effective and allows you to watch and restore photos on any other device in our possession.
In this guide, however, we will show you the apps that allow you to make full backups of the operating system and apps on your smartphone.
Many apps do not require root permissions but can only make generic backups (apps and user data), while programs that specifically request root permissions can create full backups of the apps and their generated data (saves and customizations), making them more effective.
1) Run Backup allows you to save all data: contacts, messages, call logs, photos, calendars, alarms, etc. on a maximum 5 GB cloud space or on an SD card.

Important features of this app are the backup history, the compression of the files before uploading them to the cloud, the possibility to schedule automatic backups, a web interface that can be used to view the backups at any time and above all it can be used without the need for root the phone.
2) Titanium Backup is perhaps the most powerful backup tool on Android, but it only works if root permissions have been granted (see how to root Android ) and, therefore, if the smartphone has been unlocked.

This application has several features that will not be found in the other applications on this list, such as the ability to freeze applications, backup the app configuration, synchronize data with Dropbox or Google Drive, encrypt backups and other things in added to basic functions to save SMS, call logs and favorites.
Backups are also saved on the SD card and can also be scheduled automatically.
Titanium Backup has only three drawbacks: it has bad graphics, requires root access and most of the functions are only in the premium paid version (given its peculiarities it is also one of the most expensive apps on the store, given that the license it costs 6 €).
3) G Cloud Backup allows you to backup your contacts, messages, photos, videos, music, documents, call logs, files and more to a secure cloud space.

In this way, it is easy to restore data to a new phone, using the same app.
G Cloud Backup is free and allows you to use a 1 GB online cloud storage space that can be increased, through actions and invitations, up to 10 GB.
All backup files are saved online via a secure and encrypted connection and only using the Wi-Fi connection.
We also talked about this app in the guide on how to save SMS on an Android phone online or on PC .
4) Super Backup is another very simple app to backup and restore Android phone data: applications, contacts, SMS, calls, browser favorites, bookmarks and more.

Saving can be done on SD card and online on the Google Drive space.
The backup of the app requires active root permissions, only in this way can it be complete with all the data generated by it.
By paying the Pro version you only remove it from advertising, without adding any functions.
5) Huawei Backup is an easy-to-use app, only for Huawei smartphones and tablets, capable of backing up SMS, MMS, Call log, Calendar, Bookmarks, Dictionary and Address Book, on SD card or on one of the registered Cloud services (Dropbox, Google Drive or even as a Gmail attachment).

If we own a smartphone from Huawei, it is without a doubt one of the best apps to backup.
6) Perform a Nandroid backup
Another type of backup that we can make with the smartphone is Nandroid, that is, a system image created at the recovery level that we can restore quickly in case of problems or experiments "gone wrong".
To perform this type of backup we will have to unlock the bootloader of our device (the procedure is different in each manufacturer) and install a customized recovery like TWRP .
Once installed this new component just restart the phone in recovery and select Backup, so as to save the partitions present in the internal memory of the device.

To restore simply enter recovery again and select the Restore item.
All backups of this type are saved in the microSD or internal memory, but it is better to move them physically to another device so as to always have at hand an image of the operating system present on our Android smartphone.
For more information on how to install TWRP and how to use Nandroid backup, we recommend reading our guide on how to install a Custom Android ROM, where there is a chapter on TWRP recovery and its features.
Alternatively we can read our guide on programs to manage Android from PC and transfer data, considering that many of these programs have effective tools to create backups of important data stored on the smartphone via USB connection.
