Improve English online by reading and listening to new words with free quizzes and lessons

We all pretty much learned some English at school but few people have continued to practice their English to improve it or at least keep it in memory to have a minimum of understanding when needed.
English is the most spoken language in the world and in computer science and on the internet it is fundamental : English is the programming language, many web terms are universal and in English (see words such as download, upload, sign up, login etc. .) and many useful programs and websites are only in English.
Also, when looking for some technical information on Google, you often have to search using English words because the Italian-language sites are proportionally very few and do not cover every topic.
In this post we see two online resources, both free really excellent and comfortable to improve your English, without having to put too much effort on the brain and with a guided training.
You can therefore expand your vocabulary by learning new words every day and practice reading and listening to English texts .
1) The free website Vocabulary.com says it can help improve your vocabulary, focusing on words you don't know, without wasting time on what you already know.
Obviously it is not a site to learn from scratch and it requires a certain smattering or that at least the most common terms are known.
The first thing you see on the site is a multiple choice test aimed at assessing your level of English.
A three-line sentence and a multiple choice question then appears and must be answered by choosing the most suitable word.
Other tests that follow, always different each time, ask to indicate the meaning of a word in English or to guess which is the synonym or the opposite.
All questions are multiple choice like in a quiz so you don't have to write anything, just read, click and learn new words.
When you make a mistake, you can try again until you guess the right word.
After answering a question correctly you can read the explanation of that term and when it should be used.
Pressing the Look-up button you can see more details taken from the online vocabulary while pressing on Listen you can listen to the pronunciation of the word .
The whole site is completely in English but we are here on purpose to learn and improve the language so we don't need Italian.
Once the first 10-question evaluation test is finished, the site asks to register and you can use your Facebook account or create a new account on the Vocabulary.com site.
By connecting to the site every day, perhaps for 10 minutes, you can take new tests adapted and customized according to your level of understanding of English .
The new words learned are saved in a personal file that can always be consulted which lists the progress and improvements made.
Every time you answer well you get points and learning becomes a (virtual) prize game.
Depending on your level of knowledge of English, the questions can be more or less difficult and, after a short time, the questions that you have not been able to answer correctly are asked again, so as to do a review.
2) If in addition to learning new words you also want to listen to the reading of English texts and improve the conversation, you can use the Spotlightradio.net site, free and without registration .
This website publishes a new lesson every day represented by an English text that tells a story.
Each story is a conversation between two people, a knock and answer with even pleasant stories to read.
The added value of Spotlight Radio is that each story can also be listened to online streaming, with two different voices making conversation and reading the text slowly, articulating the words and giving them the opportunity to memorize them.
Each lesson can be searched in the archive and the texts can be printed; In fact, Spotlight is also proposed as a free resource for English teachers at school.
There is also a Podcast from SpotlightRadio so every audio recording can be downloaded for free and listened to on iPod, iPhone, computer or other mobile phones (see how to download and listen to podcasts ).
3) A fun way to improve English is by listening to music, completing the lyrics of the songs by filling in the blanks.
4) To hear the pronunciation in English and translate sentences you can use Google Translate with its new reading functions.
4) In another article I remember the list of the best sites to learn foreign languages for free with lessons and videos
