The most powerful mail service that exists on the internet is, of course, Gmail but the historical and most used mail in previous years was undoubtedly the Yahoo! Mail that, for many years, was the best one could find. Personally I use the Yahoo email because I have been feeling good for several years but a Google account with Gmail cannot really be renounced given all the functions, even hidden, that it has.
Gmail is absolutely the must-have choice for those who need to open a new email account however, those who want a simple service that sends and receives mail and allows you to organize your messages without having too many additional utilities or special functions, then they could choose Yahoo .
To really overlook the mail services of Italian sites which, in my opinion, seem to be those of 10 years ago, limited and vulnerable to receiving spam.

The first thing to report on the Yahoo! it's the choice between the classic and the new interface that is still in beta. At the moment, the new interface is more comfortable for reading messages but lacks some simple functions that make the classic setting still preferable . To organize e-mail with Yahoo Mail it is first of all necessary to create groups or folders in which to put messages that have a similar topic to each other.
If therefore the mail is divided according to the sender and is sorted by date of reception, you can also easily set that, for example, all messages containing a certain word automatically end up in the same folder, separate from the main one of the incoming mail. In Yahoo Mail you can see a box with the words "My Folders" and just click on Add to create a new one. Once the folder has been named, the next step is to move messages of a certain type into it that have something in common with each other. To do this manually, select the messages from the inbox by clicking on the flag on the left and press the "Move" button.
However, the need now is for new messages that have a common topic to go automatically to this new folder . You then go to the Mail Options by pressing the button on the top right. From the Options, choose the " Filters " tab and press "Create new filter". Setting the filter on Yahoo is really simple because it is enough to indicate that all the messages that contain a certain word in the body are moved directly to the new folder. Fields that can be used for filters also include the From field, the To field and the subject or title of the message. The filter can be set in 4 ways: it contains, does not contain, starts with and ends with. By creating a new filter, you can organize your mail in a way that is consistent with your needs and, for example, I keep the communications regarding navigaweb.net in an automatic folder while I throw the comments and my replies to the comments directly in the trash.
In addition to the organization of the mail, the search for messages and attachments is also very effective because, in the classic view, there is a box called "Search in ShortCut". By default there are "My photos" and "my attachments" that allow you to search and view all the images in the mail and all the files that have been received over time.
One really simple and useful Yahoo Mail option to use is to create mail aliases to protect yourself from spam .
By always going into the options and choosing this time the Spam item, you can activate some important functions. SpamGuard is an automatic filter that turns suspicious messages into the Antispam folder and, on Yahoo, there is perhaps the best automatic antispam filter that can be found on the internet.
Below are the functions to block messages sent from selected contacts or to prevent someone from writing on Yahoo Chat.
The most important function, however, is that of temporary addresses (see also article on anonymous self-destructing emails).
You can set as many as you want and they are basically email addresses that you can activate and deactivate whenever you want. For example, I registered several temporary addresses like, and so on four more. When I have to register to a site that does not trust me then I register with one of these alias and temporary email addresses. The mail that you receive if you write to these addresses arrives at my main account but if you notice that one of these aliases was compromised and if it ends up in some spam mailing list with the consequent arrival of 4 or 5 junk mails per day, I will only deactivate it in order not to receive any more, thus keeping my main address.
Another very interesting feature is the possibility to connect the Yahoo Mail account to another email address so that, if you had two accounts, you can choose to turn all the messages that arrive on the Yahoo mail to the other. To enable the forwarding function on Yahoo you have to press on the Pop and Forward item which is among the options. The converse may also apply but it depends on whether the provider of the other mail address allows it.
With Gmail the integration is good and you can turn the mail from Yahoo to Gmail or vice versa without problems.
In this section, Pop and Forward are also the settings for importing mail on a program such as Microsoft Outlook with the indication of pop3 and the smtp server.
Yahoo Mail, along with Gmail and Outlook.com, is clearly the best online email service in the world.
By opening the Yahoo Mail settings (I take the button at the top right) you can discover the most important features and functions which are, in summary:
- Very colorful and beautiful to look at graphics, with the possibility to also choose the graphic theme.
- Ability to customize the display of messages making it more compact and opening emails in tabs, very comfortable.
- Ability to add multiple mail accounts, including non-Yahoo, to send and receive mail from other addresses.
- Create alias of the real email address, to be used to avoid spam
- Ability to send large files with Dropbox and add photos and gifs directly to the message.
- Protect your Yahoo Mail login with the second login verification.
- 1TB of storage space, which is a huge and almost infinite amount.
Always on purpose of integration between multiple accounts, you can write messages with Yahoo mail, send them and be replied to another email account .
For example I put two accounts on the same interface and If I write an email with pom1 I ask that the recipient appear in the "Reply To" field another address of the type while pom2 remains normal . In this way, since out of habit and personal convenience I like to use the composition of messages with Yahoo, I manage to make it seem to the recipient that I am writing from the official navigaweb address so he can easily recognize me. This type of option is found under the "Account" heading.
Having said that, I was hoping that, given Gmail's enormous enhancements, Yahoo would try to catch his breath on the neck by improving its stakes more decisively while instead, in recent years it has remained a bit at the stake. However, it remains the second best email service that there is therefore, since it also has interesting and integration functions, I can only advise those who already use it, not to change and those who do not use Gmail, to try.
In addition to this, in the latest application update it is also possible:
- Add email addresses to a blacklist of blocked senders, to stop receiving messages from them.
The option can be found in the settings, under Blocked addresses and a maximum of 500 can be entered.
- Receive notifications of new incoming mails on the desktop .
This option is also found in the settings, under Email View .
Notifications appear at the bottom right on Chrome, Firefox and Safari, when you are in a different tab than the one where Yahoo Mail is open.
- Searching for emails or content within emails is much better than before and comparable to that of Gmail, making it easy to search for photos and attachments as well.
The search system is then contextual depending on whether the application is used on a smartphone or the site on a PC.
- Ability to connect Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin to see more information from the profiles and photos of contacts in the address book and in the emails received.
- Ability to send photos using Flickr, by pressing the arrow down next to the clip of the attachment in the composition window of a message.
- Received photos and videos can be viewed directly inside the message, without having to download or save them on the PC or phone.
