Traditionally, horror games, as well as horror films, use a mix of images taken from everyday life that become disturbing when something is different from what one would expect. The player takes on the role of an unnamed graphic designer who has fallen asleep at his desk.
As she wakes up, she decides to have a cup of coffee and this is where the game begins.
One Late Night creates the ghostly atmosphere in a normal environment, with the usual office noises, the hum of printers and the elegant noise of modern doors that do not squeak.
Being in the role of a simple employee, you do not have a gun in your pocket, you cannot run and jump but you can hide between the tables and the desks.
For its realism, it is a rather addictive game: you can sit at your desk, turn your chair, look at the printer and access your pc with Ubuntu from where you can save your progress to start over there.
Being a linux computer, the commands Save to Save, CD to change directory, LS to list the contents of the directory, CAT to open a file and ECHO to print a line of text work.
The computer is full of files and directories to browse and also becomes a way to learn how to use a Linux system. (cd .. go back to the upper folder).
From the moment you venture out of the office it is clear that something is wrong, and the feeling of waiting for something disturbing frightens and worries the player.
If you immerse yourself in the reality of the game, there is also a fear of a copier that starts working on its own, randomly when you pass by it.
The office environment and the fact of being alone create the whole horror atmosphere which, of course, is fueled by unexpected events to be discovered.
The game changes rhythm immediately and as the story begins to emerge we realize that solitude is certainly not what to be afraid of.
Before we start, let's look at the trailer: the office, the night, the storm and, above all, discovering that perhaps we are not alone.
The game is really well done even if short, with excellent 3D graphics, music suitable for the atmosphere, horror movie sounds and so much anxiety that few video games can give us.
