Autorun in Windows 10 for programs, files and apps

In Windows 10 (and also in Windows 8.1), the traditional Start menu has changed and those who come from Windows 7 could be displaced by the fact that you are missing that folder of " Automatic Execution " or Startup where you should find the programs and apps that you automatically start when the computer is turned on. In Windows 7, in fact, it was possible to insert copies of files or links to programs in this folder called Autorun to make them start automatically when the computer was started. The management of the automatic start in Windows 7, however, did not end there, because for the installed programs it was possible to automatically set itself to start automatically by adding a key in the registry that if you were not expert it was also difficult to find.
In Windows 10 and Windows 8.1, therefore, the possibility to see all programs automatically start directly in the task manager has been added, where there is a special section dedicated to managing the automatic start of programs .

In the task manager, on the Startup tab, you can control which processes and applications are running automatically. For each item in the list, the impact on the initial loading time of the computer is also indicated in the last column. By right clicking on one of the names it is possible to see which file is started, the program properties and, if you want, you can disable the automatic start by selecting an item and then pressing on Disable .
At any time the various disabled items can be re-enabled with the same procedure.
Note that in Windows 10 and 8 the Startup tab of the task manager is very similar to the MSConfig startup management window, which was also present in Windows 7 and XP.

Windows 10 Startup folder

The question that remains open is: how to add an autorun program "> Startup " or Autorun that was in the Windows 7 Start menu has not been deleted in Windows 10, but it still exists by opening a folder in the following path:
C: \ Users \ pomhe \ AppData \ Roaming \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Start Menu \ Programs (you can copy and paste this path into the address bar of a folder in Windows Explorer).
Inside Programs, there is the Startup folder which contains links to programs that start automatically when the computer is turned on and Windows is loaded.
Precisely the path is as follows: C: \ Users \ profile name \ AppData \ Roaming \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Start Menu \ Programs \ Startup (change profile name with that of your PC)
You can then move a link of a file, a program or even a website into the Autorun folder to make it start when the PC is turned on .
There is also another Startup folder in Windows 10, located in the path C: \ ProgramData \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Start Menu \ Programs \ StartUp
The difference is that the objects in the Startup folder of ProgramData are loaded when Windows starts any user who uses the computer, while if you use the Startup folder inside Users, then the added programs and files are automatically loaded only for the user which you access.
If the PC is used by a single registered user, it does not matter which Startup folder to use.
To do first and access the autorun folder from Windows 10 and Windows 8 at any time you can press the combination of Windows-R keys and then write: shell: startup to open the autorun for a user or shell: common startup to open the Autorun folder which applies to all PC users.
If you want to add a pre-installed or downloaded one from the Microsoft Store to the Windows automatic startup, find the links. The folder can be opened quickly by pressing the Windows R keys together and then running the shell command : AppsFolder . From the applications folder, you can press the right mouse button to make the copy to be pasted into the Autorun folder.
Finally, if you want to manage everything that starts automatically when you turn on the computer and therefore both the items listed by the task manager and those in the Autorun folders, you can use the excellent Autoruns program to speed up PC loading and remove all items that automatically load, but are not needed.
