Delete the files to uninstall Service Pack 1 and recover space in Windows 7

The first Service Pack for the Windows 7 operating system was released yesterday evening (see how to download and install Windows 7 SP1) and I'm sure it was a harmless and smooth update, which did not cause any kind of problem to the computers.
In case of problems Microsoft has provided the possibility to uninstall the Service Pack which could be useful to do only in case of incompatibility or for system stability errors that occur after the update.
To uninstall Service Pack 1 just go to Control Panel, Programs and Features and click on the left link: View installed updates .
In the list that appears you can select Service Pack for Microsoft Windows (KB976932), then press the Uninstall button.
If there are problems with uninstalling from Control Panel, then you can remove Service Pack 1 by opening a dos prompt with administrator privileges ( Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Right click on the command prompt -> Run as administrator ) and write the following command: wusa.exe / uninstall / kb: 976932 .
Since Windows 7 Service Pack 1 will be permanently an integral part of your computer and will never be uninstalled unless in rare exceptional cases, a good idea is to delete the backup and uninstallation files of the Windows update and thus recover disk space for over 1 GB on 32-bit PCs and 3 GB for 64-bit PCs .
The backup files are those created by SP1 in order to restore the correct functioning of the computer in case there were errors during the installation.
Anyone who has installed the Service Pack without complications does not need those backup files which, in fact, are used to uninstall the update.
You can then free up a lot of disk space by deleting these unnecessary files.
Just for overzealousness, I could recommend trying the computer for a day or two before deleting the SP1 uninstall files as well, just to be sure that everything is going well and that all programs open correctly.
As mentioned above, the recovery of space will be about 3GB for 64-bit Windows 7 computers and 1 GB for 32-bit ones which is not a little.
Removing the backup files of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is very simple but it must be done from the command prompt.
Then go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories, press the right mouse button on the Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
Immediately, copy and paste this command to start the cleaning procedure and delete all the uninstall files:
dism / online / cleanup-image / spsuperseded
The process is completed in a few minutes and ends with a confirmation message of the type " The operation was successfully completed ", making the cursor available and flashing again.
From now on you will have recovered some disk space but, keep in mind that it will no longer be possible to uninstall Service Pack 1 after launching the cleaning command.
I personally believe that there is no reason to uninstall this update in the future so I recommend deleting unnecessary backup files.
