Disable the network card and disconnect from the internet with a click or automatically

In some cases it may be useful to configure the automatic disconnection of the computer from the internet .
I can think of at least two reasons for wanting to disconnect the internet in certain periods of time:
- To avoid distractions while working.
- To avoid any data transmission when you are not using the PC and there is no reason to want it to remain connected to the LAN or the internet.
You can disconnect your computer from the internet either on command or automatically after a certain period of time.
The manual and normal procedure to disconnect a computer from the LAN without obviously disconnecting the cable is, in Windows 7, to go to the Control Panel -> Network connection center -> click on the link on the left " Change adapter settings " -> Press right-click on the icon of the active and connected network and disable it from the contextual menu.
To disconnect instead from a wifi network just press the network icon at the bottom right, in the notification area next to the clock on the Windows desktop and disconnect.
To do it first, you can download a small tool called InternetOff that allows you to detach yourself from the internet completely by disabling the network with a click .
InternetOff is a simple tool that brings up a button in the Windows notification area that you can click to stop the internet.
The peculiarity of this small tool are the options to reactivate the internet because you can choose to re-enable the connection for a time interval of 15, 30 or 60 minutes.
After this time, the internet will be disabled again.
This is the typical tool for self-discipline and avoid the temptation to go to Facebook, Youtube or other sites that waste time.
With Internet Off, chat or online communication programs won't work either.
It doesn't matter if you are connected via Wireless or LAN cable, as the application turns off the internet in both disabling all the network cards.
After a recent update in 2016, InternetOff can also be used to automatically activate and deactivate the internet .
If, on the other hand, you want the internet to be turned off and off after a certain period of time when you are not using your computer, there are certainly two alternatives.
For example, you can configure standby or automatic hibernation of the computer with the Windows energy saving settings.
Alternatively, a new automated operation can be created with the TimeComx program, explained in the guide on how to run applications, files and commands on a PC with timer or on the basis of an event.
You can then install TimeComX, use as an Event, Activity Monitor with the cross on the keyboard and mouse, in order to count the idle time of the computer, and set the time period.
As Task you must select the Run File option and then write as the program path:
C: /Windows/System32/netsh.exe .
In the box at the bottom of the parameter write instead:
interface set interface "name of internet connection" disabled by replacing the name of the internet connection with the one readable in the network card window (which can have the default name: " Connection to the local network (LAN) ".
To test if this command works, you can create a new shortcut on the desktop by targeting:
netsh interface set interface "network connection name" disabled and then run it.
To reconnect the internet, it is necessary to create a new desktop shortcut that has the command as path:
netsh interface set interface "connection name" enabled .
Without using programs, you can download and put the Toggle_internet.bat file on the desktop which, if run by the administrator, disables the network card thus stopping the internet
Clicking on it again re-enables the network card.
