Spell checker in Windows, to correct texts on the internet and on the PC

While on smartphones we are used to writing with an always active spelling checker that automatically corrects us every wrong (sometimes even too much) written word, on the computer this control so precise and in real time is missing.
For those who write documents, simple notes, blogs, forums, Facebook posts or any other type of text, it is instead very important to have an automatic control that can highlight any grammatical or spelling errors while preserving the risk of making bad figures.
To have a spelling checker and correct the texts written on the Windows PC or on the internet there are different ways, all with some limitations, even if some better than others.
The first of these modes is definitely to use a program like Microsoft Word, which includes a powerful spelling checker in real time, very precise and punctual.
With Word, spell checking is already on by default.
It can be configured by pressing the top File key and then on Options, in the Correction tools section.
In the screen on the right there are numerous options that you can change, including the one to activate or not the automatic correction.
By pressing the AutoCorrect Options button you can check other advanced settings such as always starting a sentence with a capital letter after a point.
In the Options > Language you can add the Italian language, if it is not yet installed.
While writing a document, all misspelled words will be highlighted with a red line and you just have to press on the right button to see which are the correct words.
To make a global check of a document or text written with Word, you can go to the Review menu and press the Check spelling and grammar button .
Those who use LibreOffice can use the same automatic text correction function.
In the top menu of the Tools, you can activate or deactivate the automatic spell checker and also use the manual spell checker, to quickly correct all the errors of a text.
Word or LibreOffice auto-corrector is very handy when writing documents, but it may not be the best if you are writing something on a website or other programs and applications.
Those who use Windows 10 can therefore take advantage of the spell check function, which can be activated by going to Settings> Devices> Typing .
You can then activate the option of automatic correction and the one that shows spelling errors.
The problem with this spelling checker in Windows 10 is that it only works on applications (not all) downloaded from the Microsoft Store and not on normal programs installed on your PC.
For example, this control works on the Microsoft Edge browser, on all texts written on websites.
The misspelled words will be underlined in red and by clicking on them with the right button it will be possible to change the word by putting the correct one among the suggestions.
If a correct word is not recognized, it can be added to the dictionary to not see it underlined in red the next few times.
Text correction on the internet is also active in Google Chrome, thanks to its integrated function.
As already explained in a detailed guide on the spelling checker of Chrome, it is possible to have an indication of any error in writing a text in any language you write, in Italian, in English or any other you want to add.
Checking for typing and spelling errors in Chrome is activated by going to Settings> Advanced settings> Spell checker.
Under the Language option, additional languages can be added if necessary.
If you want to use Chrome as a basic text corrector, you can use the Notepadonline website which provides a blank writing sheet like the Windows Notepad.
Spell checking for texts written on websites is also active in Firefox .
The spellchecking option when typing is already active by default and can be checked by pressing the menu with three lines at the top right, going to Options and, in the General tab under Language .
To have a spell checker on each program installed in Windows 7 or Windows 10 (including notepad) you can install free additional software.
Of this type of program, which also works in Italian, there are two main alternatives of which I have already spoken extensively:
- EType, a full-bodied program that includes, in addition to spell checking, also the ability to suggest words, automatic completion and translator, all automatic.
- TinySpell, a program that works as a spell checker on every PC writing window.
