ADSL and Fiber availability check for each zone

When we receive a call from a commercial operator (Fastweb, Vodafone, TIM or Wind) in which we are presented with a nice promotional offer, it is necessary to take a few minutes before accepting, so we can check the technology available in your area. and on the theoretical speed that can be achieved .
Even if those who propose the contract should assure us that 100% there are no problems and that our area or our house is covered "by the maximum speed", this verification done on our own is a must, since we cannot trust us regardless of what we are told by phone.
We find out in this guide how to check the type of Internet technology available for a specific area or address, using the tools made available by some specialized websites and apps.

1) All that glitters is not gold!
Checking carefully what type of technology we can use at home or in the office and obtaining an estimate of the theoretical speed will protect us from disappointments and scams carried out by operators who call to offer us new offers.
It may happen, in fact, that after signing the contract and having canceled the previous one, you risk being left without a line for a long time only because, even if our area is actually covered by the telephone operator, it is not possible to connect immediately for a cabinet saturation or for the difficulties in bringing the promised technology, making us fall back on slower connections (the classic 8 Mbit / s ADSL, which are often also saturated and offer even lower speeds).
If there is availability and we are promised a connection of a certain speed, we could be very disappointed that the Internet is much slower than previously thought.
Not to mention if the contract spoke of the possibility of a fiber connection that is not there and never will be.
To avoid these disappointments and frustrations with internet connections, as mentioned above, it is better not to trust anyone except yourself and to check the type of Internet technology that you can use at our address, also retrieve the information on the cupboard you need the telephony in the area and also the distance from the nearest telephone exchange (very useful for understanding what the maximum speed will be).
To deepen the discussion between the various types of Internet technology that can be exploited at the moment, I refer you to reading our dedicated guide -> VDSL, FTTC and FTTH fiber: what differences and which is better "> Fibermap, which provides very precise data regarding availability and speed of internet, ADSL and Fiber services, for each area of Italy .

To check Internet coverage, simply select our region, then the province where we live and finally enter the name of the municipality where we want to check.
After a few seconds we will see the window where you can enter the home address, also accompanied by the choice of the house number (the app itself will indicate the house numbers reviewed for the area).
Once all the required data has been entered, we will see information relating to the type of Internet technologies that can be activated at the address provided.

At the top we will be immediately offered information relating to the optical fiber: if we find a Yes next to the name of the technology, it is available (on the card).
To obtain a good line speed without having to change the wires of the telephone system, make sure that in the indicated area it is possible to activate VDSL technology (up to 100 Mega in download) or eVDSL (up to 200 Mega in download).
If, on the other hand, we want maximum speed and we do not worry about the work necessary to bring the optical fiber into the home, we check that it is possible to activate the FTTH technology (up to 1000 Mega per download in many cities, otherwise up to 100 Mega).
Note : ignore the data relating to the ILC fiber, it is not possible to obtain it for home use (it is reserved for companies).
We do not find any positive confirmation in the field reserved for optical fiber ">
We will obtain valuable information on the distance from the cabinet, on the estimated speed (in download and upload) and on the cabinet code (useful for speeding up the work of technicians in the event of switching from one technology to another).
The indicated speeds are to be taken with the "pliers", there are too many factors that can modify this parameter (we can have a higher but also a lower speed).
3) Check the service available in the area via mobile app
If we do not want to use the PC to control the Internet service, we can rely on a convenient free app for Android, namely Check Coverage and SpeedTest .

With this app we will have a convenient speed test to be able to test the network conditions at any time (both Wi-Fi and LTE), but above all a valid help to check the type of technology and Internet coverage present in a given address.
Just open the Check coverage menu and enter the required data in the Address tab; alternatively we can use the tab Your location, so that we can use geo-location to be able to obtain the address.
Once you have entered the necessary data, simply click on Check to obtain information on the available Internet technology, the average speed and the saturation of the telephone exchange.
In two other articles we talked about how internet speed is measured and, above all, if it pays to pay more for an ADSL that promises to be faster .
