Configure Microsoft Outlook with Gmail

To add Gmail to Outlook, we open the latter (looking in the Start menu at the bottom left or inside the Launchpad, if we are on Mac) and, if we have not yet configured it, we enter the email address for Gmail and the password when requested, so as to immediately obtain access to the e-mail address (the parameters will be automatically configured). If an account is already set up, we click on the top left on File, then on the Add account button.

We enter the email address for Gmail, click Connect and enter the password for the same account. The account will be automatically added to our Outlook and we will be able to manage incoming and outgoing mail directly from the program, without having to open the web page each time.
If we notice any problems accessing Outlook with Gmail, we recommend following the following tips to be able to unblock Gmail:

• Make sure IMAP is active : if this feature is not active on our Gmail account, we will not be able to access the mailbox from Outlook.
• Let's make sure that two-factor authentication is active : this will prevent further requests for confirmation and repeated password requests when accessing Gmail from Outlook, as well as significantly increasing the security level of the account.
• We generate a specific password for Outlook : Gmail allows you to generate specific passwords for apps and programs, which can use it for access but without giving up complete control of the account (dangerous). When logging in, we use the specific password instead of the password normally used for Google or Gmail.

By following all the procedures described above it will be possible to add the Gmail profile to our Outlook program without any problem.

Configure Mail (Windows 10) with Gmail

If we do not own Office and consequently Outlook, we can still manage Gmail mail using the Mail app, integrated in Windows 10 and available for free. We open the Start menu at the bottom left, search for Mail and open the corresponding app; it is integrated into Windows 10, so if we have the latter operating system we will not have to install anything else.
Open the app, click on the top left on Accounts, then on Add account (on the bar on the right side of the window). In the window that appears, click on the Google item and enter the login credentials for our Gmail account.

Immediately after entering the credentials, our mail account will be synchronized and we will have access to our emails directly from the app.
If we experience problems logging into our account with the Windows 10 Mail app, the same recommendations that we have provided for Outlook are valid, that is, we will have to make sure we have IMAP active, activate two-factor authentication and generate a specific password to the Windows 10 Mail app.

Configure Mozilla Thunderbird with Gmail

Another popular program for reading and sending mail from your computer is Mozilla Thunderbird, available for free for Windows and Mac.
Once the program is installed on our computer, open it directly from the Start menu, looking for it among the various software available, then click on the icon with the three lines at the top right, then go to Options -> Account settings . In the window that will open, click on the bottom left on Account Actions -> Add mail account, then enter the login credentials for the Gmail account we intend to add.

Thunderbird will automatically recover the access parameters and allow you to manage the account's e-mail without having to open the web page each time.
Also in this case, the recommendations shown for Outlook apply in case of problems in adding the account: make sure that IMAP is active and set up secure access with two-factor authentication and the specific password for Thunderbird.

If we have any other email client (including corporate) and we are looking for the parameters to manually configure access to Gmail, we recommend using the ones listed below:

By entering these parameters into the email account configuration screen, we will be able to access our Gmail account from any program or app that requires manual configuration.
