Buying Windows 7: versions and purchase prices

Today is the day when Windows 7 was officially released in all IT stores, at the big names in large retailers and in online stores, in Italy and all over the world.
I am not used to talking about "sale" in these pages, however, since it is Windows, we must always remember that it is a commercial product, the license for which, even at home, must be purchased obligatorily (so to speak) and therefore it is necessary to see how to regulate.
Let's see then, after checking the system requirements on the computer, which versions of Windows 7 you can buy, the differences, the Italian prices in Euros and a trick to save a lot.

To begin with, it must be said that this version of Windows was developed and produced quickly enough in the Microsoft labs to try to make us forget the gross mistakes made during the development of Windows Vista.
If in fact Windows XP still remains the most used operating system in the world despite almost 10 years having passed, it is due to the poor performance of Vista, its successor.
Seven therefore has the stated objective of regaining the lost market with Vista which among the worst defects has slowness, heaviness and the boring and continuous safety warnings.
Windows 7, on the other hand, is lighter, it can also be installed on netbooks or mini portable PCs and also contains a Windows XP mode to run older programs and Virtual PC to run multiple operating systems together.
From today, if you buy a new computer, whether it is a fixed PC already assembled, or a notebook or a netbook, you will find Windows 7 installed and, if it were not so, give up the purchase and change the shop, making it clear that Vista does not want it. .
The main difference between Vista and Windows Seven is that the latter is modular ; this means that it can be installed both on a powerful computer and on an adaptably less bodied one, customizing the installation so as to leave aside the heaviest software elements.
Windows 7 was also created for businesses thanks to the simultaneous release of Windows Server 2008 R2 .
Clearly, I can imagine that, in this year of crisis, updating a company's fleet of machines is not among the priorities.
There are six versions of Windows 7 : Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate .
Each of them has a Windows 7 N version which is the one without windows Media Player imposed by the European antitrust commission.
The choice of the most suitable version for your use of the computer may therefore seem like a complicated study, but in reality, there are only three editions of Windows 7 that you can really choose when purchasing.
1) Windows 7 Starter cannot be purchased because it is the light version adapted for netbooks and less powerful computers that is sold only as pre-installed on mini portable PCs.
This Starter is very narrow, all the graphic effects of the desktop are missing (the so-called Aero) and it does not support 64 bits.
2) Windows 7 Home Basic will not be found in Italian stores because it is the version offered for sale in developing countries
3) Windows 7 Home Premium is the version to be purchased for the home computer, and is the equivalent of Xp Home Edition.
Many computers will have this version pre-installed especially those that will be bought in shopping malls such as MediaWorld, Troni or Unieuro.
Personally I do not recommend the purchase of the Home version to install it on a portable PC (on a fixed one) as it lacks some network functions that can always be useful in the future.
4) The best and recommended version is therefore Windows 7 Professional which has the same characteristics as the Home and is dedicated to those who work on the PC .
The additional functions are related to the network, remote desktop and backup procedures.
5) Windows 7 Ultimate includes all the features of Windows 7 Home Premium and Professional, plus some business extras and related security features. Ultimate also allows you to use multiple languages on the same PC .
This is a version for companies.
6) Windows 7 Enterprise is sold only by volume of licenses so a single version does not exist and is not found in stores.
Except for the Starter, all versions of Windows 7 can be installed 32-bit or 64-bit, depending on the processor inside the computer.
If you want to buy Windows 7, Professional or Ultimate, in Italian, since Microsoft no longer sells it, you can look on Ebay or Amazon, where there are regular and legal licenses even for a few Euros.
So, in conclusion, Windows 7 Ultimate wins the comparison of the versions both for quality and price but deny me if you have information contrary to my deduction.
Two separate guides explain how to install Windows 7 from XP and how to update Vista and switch to Windows seven.
