How the smartphone can ruin our lives if misused

Smartphones are the main technological novelty of the last decade, the true evolution of the mobile phone that had been the novelty of the previous decade. These miniature computers that we all carry around in our pockets all day and every day, have now become indispensable objects for everyday life and the houses that produce them, Apple, Google, HTC, Samsung etc. they compete to those who sell more.
However, while we have seen how many things can be done with a smartphone, every now and then we must also stop and take a step back, looking at ourselves, the use we make of these cell phones and noting how, in some ways, they have not improved our rather, they ruin it or at least have the ability to do it in the future.
Let's see why a smartphone can ruin our lives and what abuses of it should be avoided .

1) A smartphone is the bane of real social relationships
This, in reality, is a typical modern problem of all recent technology, computers, the internet and social networks in particular.
The smartphone connects us to the whole world via e-mail, via Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter and the web in general, but disconnects us from the people around us. This is an easily detectable phenomenon and it is enough to go to the pub or restaurant to see couples or groups of friends who are not talking, but are each looking at his cell phone. People no longer talk, they send messages and emoticons.
2) Risk of living through the camera lens filter
Today all smartphones are equipped with good cameras inside them and they become really comfortable for taking photos or shooting videos at all times. Having a camera always at hand can make it difficult for some people to resist the temptation to take photos on any occasion. The problem arises when we go out with people who only frame the world and the people around with the camera to take a picture, almost hiding and so concentrated on not enjoying the present.
3) Losing all your free time
Smartphones are extremely versatile devices that offer endless opportunities to pass the time, give both productively and to be distracted.
I also recently wrote about how to use your smartphone without an internet connection to pass the time .
The problem may be that of abusing the phone and getting too fixated to play, tweet, text and surf useless websites for hours on end without doing anything else.
4) Flow into " oversharing", share too many things and destroy one's privacy. The holy trinity "smartphone - Internet - social network" has led many people to overdo it when it comes to sharing the details of their life and smartphones are, I believe, the main cause of this trend of doing " oversharing ". The fact is that with the mobile phone we can share every moment of our life when and where we want, talk about sentimental situations, problems in the workplace, personal problems and tell everyone what we are doing, where we are doing it, and with whom. You can upload photos or videos, write the most trivial comments and continuously publish selfies to show others that we are cool. In the end, friends on Facebook or other social networks could find many arguments to talk about us or simply find us boring or vain.

5) Difficulty detaching from the internet
With the computer, sooner or later one gets tired, turns it off and gets up from the desk or table where he was using it, now this does not happen anymore. Having a Smartphone means that wherever you are in the world, you have the ability to connect to the internet, go online and converse with people. It can become really difficult to unplug and get away from everything and everyone, even for short periods of time.
6) High risk of "offending" friends for lack of answers
Once with SMS you could also pretend nothing or read a message without replying, today not. Those who have a ninth smartphone will no longer be able to use the excuse "sorry if I have not replied, I have not read it", because I know if and when you read the message I sent via Facebook, Whatsapp or other apps.
7) To rely too much on technology and to stop thinking
Even if we should all welcome the progress of technology and make it our own, the danger is to forget to do even the easiest things with your own head. So here we do not do more mathematical operations in mind because there is a calculator, we no longer remember a road because there is a navigator, we no longer know how to write because there is an automatic corrector, do not remember appointments because c is the digital agenda and so on. In the end, the danger is to become more stupid.
8) Losing a smartphone could be a very serious problem
Before if you lost a cell phone, you could even cry for the financial damage, but there were no risks anyway. Today a smartphone contains a lot of that personal data, including logins and passwords for web accounts, that if a stranger came into possession of it and used it to damage us, there could be significant problems.
For this reason, an anti-theft system is now included on all smartphones to block or delete the cell phone memory, which is practically indispensable.

In the end, I will never cease to recommend buying a smartphone to those who do not have it, but it is important to keep in mind that, as for all things, even internet technology and smartphones, if abused or simply used too much, become a bad and do not improve our lives.
Knowing how to use an iPhone is not so much a question of an instruction booklet, but above all of common sense.
