How to share WiFi passwords on Android and iPhone

We have a new device to connect to the home WiFi network but we don't remember the password to connect to the network "> Best apps to manage passwords on Android and iPhone
1) Share passwords on Android
On some Android devices it is possible to share the WiFi passwords saved via a QR Code, i.e. using a personalized barcode.
This feature is not natively integrated into Android, so we will necessarily have a version of Android customized by the manufacturer of the mobile phone, which often integrate additional features (including that of being able to use WiFi password sharing via QR Code).
As an example we see how to share the password on a Xiaomi smartphone: we open the Settings app, go to the WiFi menu and click on the wireless network to which we are connected; a QR code will appear immediately to be photographed on the other Android or iOS device to immediately obtain the password without dictating it.

To scan this code, just use the camera app built into the device or download specific apps to read QR codes, such as those available here -> QR Droid Code Scanner (Android) and QR Code Reader by Scan (iOS).
If we do not have this functionality integrated into the Android operating system, the only way to recover a WiFi password to share is to keep root permissions and take advantage of the dedicated recovery apps.
To obtain root permissions, simply read the guide we have created on the subject, available here -> ROOT Android to have your cell phone free and unlocked (programs and guide).
Once we have obtained root permissions on our Android phone, we download the Super Wifi Key Recovery app, available for free download from here -> Super Wifi Key Recovery .

Once installed, just grant the app root permissions and visit the page dedicated to recovering the WiFi passwords saved on the device, so that you can recover the password to be sent via chat or SMS to the new device.
There are many other similar apps, just choose the one that convinces you most among those listed below (all require root permissions for password recovery).
- WiFi QR code generator
- WiFiKeyShare
- InstaWifi
All the reported apps allow you to recover the password of the WiFi network to which we are connected or to which we have connected in the past, with the possibility of sharing it via QR code or using NFC and Bluetooth wireless technologies.
In this way, a rooted Android smartphone can send the password to access WiFi to another Android device or to an iPhone simply by using a barcode or, alternatively, by using contact technologies (just bring the devices closer and use NFC technology or Bluetooth).
2) Share passwords on iPhone
To share the password between two iPhones we will not have to use any type of app, since from iOS 11 onwards Apple has integrated a powerful and effective system for sharing passwords via contact (using the available wireless technologies).
To share the password between two iPhones, make sure that both devices have a version equal to or higher than iOS 11 (we can check in Settings -> General -> Info ) then, on the iPhone not yet connected to the WiFi network, we click Settings - > WiFi and then on the name of the wireless network to which we want to connect.
The classic text field where to enter the password will appear; without inserting anything we now approach the iPhone smartphone already connected to the network (they must be very close, in contact) and wait for the warning window to appear.
After a few seconds the iPhone already connected will show a window in which we will be asked whether to share the WiFi password with the iPhone nearby; all we have to do is click on Share password to proceed with sharing.

The iPhone not yet connected will immediately receive the password and will be able to connect to the indicated WiFi network without entering any password manually, given that the operating system has taken care of it.
If we want to share the password between iPhone and Android, we will have to use an app like Visual Codes, available for free from here -> Visual Codes .

Using this app we can create QR codes with the password for each WiFi network that we are going to use on the iPhone.
As soon as the app is installed, open it, click on Add code and select Connect to WiFi .
We insert the data of the WiFi network to which we want to connect (fill in each field, including the type of security adopted and the password) and save the QR code; from now on, just show this QR code to any Android device (with a camera app with code support) to quickly obtain the password to access the wireless network, even if we have forgotten about it.
3) Conclusions
After seeing all the methods to quickly share WiFi passwords on Android and iPhone, we can say that devices with iOS are much more effective, since they can share the access password quickly and painlessly between iPhones simply by approaching them.
If we use Android devices we will have to hope that the operating system supports the password sharing functionality (as for example on Xiaomi), otherwise the only way to effectively share the password is to use root permissions, which cannot always be obtained easily and without long and laborious procedures.
For the exchange of passwords we can use QR codes, useful in case we need to exchange data between devices with different operating system (from iPhone to Android and vice versa) or to share the WiFi password on compatible Android devices.
