We recently moved to iPhone or iPad but we don't know how to manage apps as we used to do on Android "> How to free up space on iPhone

How to update apps on iPhone and iPad

To automatically update the apps on an iPhone or iPad, we open the Settings app, go to the menu with our Apple username (the first at the top of the list), press on iTunes and App Store then make sure that the sign is active check mark next to App Updates . The same menu is also accessible from Settings -> iTunes Store and App Store .

If we want to download the updates of the app even when we are on the mobile network (thus benefiting from the data offer of our SIM), it is sufficient to enable the Automatic downloads item present under the Cellular data section, in the same path indicated above. By default, the iPhone and iPad will automatically download only apps smaller than 200MB in size, asking the user to take action only for really very large apps. If we want to change this behavior, we press on Download app under the Cellular data section so we choose whether to always allow the download or whether to always ask what to do (even with smaller apps).
To manually update an app, we open the App Store on our iPhone or iPad, go to the Today tab at the bottom left, press the profile icon at the top right then scroll down the page until you find the Updates available section. Now just tap on the Update button next to the updatable app or use the Update all button to start updating all the apps present.
To allow the app to update in the background (to receive notifications, news or new functions), we open the Settings app, press the General menu, select Update app in the background and make sure that the apps of our interest are active.

To allow updating in the background in any network condition, make sure to set Wi-Fi and cellular data under Update background app, present on the same screen seen previously.
To check the update in the background only for a specific app, we can also open the Settings app and scroll to the bottom of it, until you find the name of the app to be configured; once the app is selected, we can activate or deactivate the Update in the background item, so as to quickly decide whether to keep the app in memory to receive all the updates provided by the service or by the app (very useful for messaging apps, for weather apps or news apps).

How to delete apps on iPhone and iPad

If, on the other hand, we want to delete the apps on the iPhone and iPad (including many system apps), we can act by holding down the finger on the app to be deleted for a few seconds, then pressing on Rearrange the apps, pressing on the X-shaped symbol (which will appear in the upper left corner of the apps that we can delete) and finally press on Delete in the foreground window.

Once the app has been deleted, we can continue uninstalling the other apps that do not interest us, always using the X button. At the end, just press the Home button or press Finish at the top right (from iPhone X onwards) to return to the app screens .
If we have deleted a system app by mistake and want to restore it, just open the App Store, search for the app in question (it will be developed by Apple, therefore easily recognizable) and press on the cloud and arrow symbol to start downloading the app on our device.
To automatically remove the apps that we haven't used for some time (to save memory and speed up the device) just open the Settings app, press the iTunes Store and App Store menu, scroll to the bottom of the page and activate the button next to the item Remove app you don't use .

From now on, apps that you haven't used for some time will be automatically removed from your device. All documents and data generated by the app will not be deleted and will be available again on the iPhone or iPad by reinstalling the app in question (always if it is still available in the App Store).
