Change your name on Facebook and add nicknames or other names

Facebook recently renewed its efforts to force users to use their real names, asking those who used a nickname to change.
After all, there can be a thousand legitimate reasons to choose a different name from the real one on your Facebook profile.
Maybe not to be found by old schoolmates or to identify with a pseudonym with which they all call us in real life.
Facebook, however, does not seem to be tolerant and, if it understands that you are not using a real name and surname, it will ask you to change it if you do not want the profile to be blocked.
The question of the name on Facebook has always been a little confusing so it's worth making a little order, understanding how and when you can change your name and how you can add another name, nickname, alias or even the maiden name .
First of all, therefore, all those who use Facebook must have a real name and surname .
Fortunately, you can add another name to your account, which can be displayed on the profile as the main name or in brackets, next to the real one.
To change your name on Facebook you can go to your account settings, reachable by the down arrow in the upper right corner.
In the general settings, the first line is that of the name that can be changed.
What you see here is the main name which should be the real one.
As you can read in the change note, you can change the name only once every 60 days and it is not advisable to do it often if you do not want Facebook to suspect that it is a fake account.
A name other than the real name can also be used as the main name, always consisting of a name and a surname.
In this case there should be no problems, although it becomes advisable to add the first name in the Other names section.

To add other names, go to your profile and click on " Information " in the menu at the top, under the cover.
Then go to the " Your information " section and click on Add a nickname ..
Any other name added will always be public and visible to everyone because for Facebook it must allow easier recognition.
For another added name you can choose the type (for example nickname, maiden name, first name etc.) and if it must be visible in the profile, as a name in brackets.
You can also edit or add another name from the Facebook app for Android smartphones .
Touch the three lines at the top right, scroll down, touch " Account settings ", go to General and then to Name .
From here you can also add another name by tapping on the small link below.
On iPad or iPhone the steps are largely the same: tap the arrow in the upper right corner and from the menu that appears, tap " Settings ", then go to Name .
When changing the main name it is important to be careful not to do it often; there is in fact a limit of 5 times, after which it remains blocked and the modification option will no longer be available.
In the event that you can no longer change your name, you will need to access this page, write the name you want to use and the reasons for this latest change and also upload a copy of your identity document.
