Free calendar on Windows 7 to mark events and appointments

It seems rather strange but in Windows 7 there is no calendar that can be used to organize appointments, invitations and commitments of various types. The calendar was present in Windows Vista, it is present in Windows 10, but it is absent in Windows 7 where the only thing that Microsoft offers as a free program in Windows with calendar function is that of the clock that remains however a little hidden and it is not a dating agenda. Trying to search for Calendar does not find anything, you have to click on the clock to see the days of the year divided by weeks and months.
To have an interactive calendar that also acts as an agenda of commitments and appointments on the Windows 7 PC, you must therefore use a free external program.
The best and free choice is Mozilla Thunderbird, the free alternative mail program to Microsoft Outlook, the best program to use as an interactive calendar that also acts as an organizer of commitments and events on Windows 7. When you start Thunderbird for the first time, you will be asked to enter a new email account. If, at least for now, you do not intend to use the mail client, you can exit the initial configuration window and still access the program which will appear empty.
The calendar is started by pressing the link to create a new calendar. It can also be used without having set an Email address. The Thunderbird calendar works thanks to the Lightning extension, which should already be integrated into the program and there is no need to install it again.
To see the calendar window, you need to press one of the buttons at the top right, the one that shows the calendar or the activity one.
Thunderbird's calendar is similar to that of Microsoft Outlook but simpler, less powerful, with basic functionality. There is a full screen view, with a view for days, weeks or months. In addition to the basic agenda functions, the Thunderbird calendar allows you to create events and commitments by clicking on a day of the year and planning the activity, marking the location and giving it a name. Recurring events can be created and reminders can be set. By pressing the Print button, you can print the calendar on a sheet with daily, weekly and monthly print style, setting an interval of days even for an entire year.
Thunderbird's calendar becomes very useful and functional if you log in with a Gmail or Outlook account. By pressing the " Log on " button at the top, you can then log in to the services to synchronize online events so that you can also consult them from your mobile phone or other computers. The program also integrates with the Email client if you want to configure it to receive and send mail.
As alternatives, we have seen in other posts, the best programs with calendar and agenda on Windows and a calendar for the PC desktop .
In another article I had listed the best online agendas and Google Calendar which remains the best web application for managing appointments and commitments via the internet, from a PC or mobile phone (also for integration with Gmail).
Other web applications can be used as email reminders, reminders and checklists.
