Device Driver backup and restore on Windows PC

When a Windows computer is malfunctioning or not starting at all, probably the best and quickest solution to solve the problem is to format the pc by resetting it and reinstalling Windows.
I find this solution always the most extreme because I believe that if a PC turns on and loads the operating system, all errors can be solved manually and with the various tools recommended in this blog on the Windows Guide pages.
However, formatting and reinstalling a PC is very simple even if a little laborious, if you are not preparing, because you have to be sure to save your personal data and documents, the personalized settings of Windows and programs, updates and patches and, and finally, the drivers for the peripherals.
To save the stored personal data and documents, an external driver or hard disk can be enough, on which to copy everything that is considered important.
To do a smoother and more performing job, after reinstalling Windows you can import the configurations and all the saved settings, including documents, with the guided file and settings transfer procedure, the guide for which concerns both backup and recovery .
In another post we saw the guide to create a complete Windows installation CD, customized, that does everything by itself and already updated.
A useful methodology for restoring Windows from scratch is to upload a full disk image backup with computer backup and recovery software.
However, if you do not have an updated backup copy and the PC has errors and problems that you cannot recognize, it is better to reset everything, without carrying around the various badly installed programs.
Only the drivers are left out, the reinstallation of which can be very problematic, especially if the PC is old but even if it were new, you will probably have to go and look for them on the CDs that were with the computer package and would not even be updated.
To avoid therefore going to look for them at home or on the internet, even if in another article we tried to see how to update and download the most popular and popular drivers, it is better to save them and create a backup copy, even of these particular objects.
I remember that the drivers are used to operate the hardware devices on the computer, such as the printer, the TV card. audio, 3d video, usb pen and so on.
When you buy a new object to attach to the PC, there is always the CD with the drivers to install to make it work.
All these CDs then, the good ones keep them, the messy ones like me instead lose them.
By making a backup copy of the drivers, it happens that, after reinstalling Windows, just insert this new CD with all the drivers and wait for their automatic and quick installation .
A famous program for backing up and restoring drivers is called Driver Genius which, however, is paid and we do not advertise it further because the alternatives are there and are very valid.
1) DriverMax is one of the most popular freep programs for backing up drivers and restoring them on a computer.
This program becomes strong and powerful because it has the additional function of searching the internet if there is a new version available and updating the driver.
You can certainly import / export the dirver, view the installed ones, their possible relationships, check the updates and recognize, if any, the hardware that Windows sees as unknown.
DriverMax is a free and free software to download and use, but you need to set up a user account and get a registration key before you can access its full functionality.
2) Free Driver Backup is a driver backup utility for Windows PC that automatically recognizes the computer hardware, extracts the associated drivers from the disk and saves them in a safe place.
The installation file is only 3.7 MB in size and can be easily downloaded.
During the installation of Backup Free driver you must refuse advertising adware.
Free driver Backup is easy to use and comes with many useful features visible in the tabs at the top left of the application window.
You can scan drivers, back up device drivers in Windows, and restore them on the same PC or another
Driver Backup Free is useful for creating a backup of all the main system drivers such as the mouse, keyboard, audio and video drivers, network drivers etc.
3) DriverBackup is a free program, less known but very valid and efficient.
Although it does not provide for driver updates like DriverMax does, it offers several alternatives and options when you want to back up your drivers.
The program is immediately portable and there is no need to install it, just double-click on the DrvBk.exe file to run it.
4) Double Driver (no longer updated) is a simple and small software that can be used to backup / restore device drivers.
There is nothing sensational about this program, except that it does its job very well.
Double Driver is able to identify third-party drivers, those installed with the various CDs and drivers provided by Microsoft.
By default, rightly so, only third-party drivers are included in the backup because Microsoft drivers are included in the installation of the operating system.
However, if you want a complete solution, you can also select all drivers including those from Microsoft.
Double Driver is also a portable program, capable of running on any Windows machine, without the need for installation.
5) Driver Talent is an excellent program (also in its free version) to backup the drivers as well as to update them and correct any errors, free, simple to use and reliable.
Now the puzzle is complete and reinstalling Windows from scratch, thanks to these guides, should be a walk for everyone.
