Activate the Dark theme in Chrome on Windows and Mac

Google has announced that the latest update for the Chrome browser, Chrome 73, available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
The Chrome update, which can be done manually by going to the main menu with three dots, then on Help> Information, brings the usual security corrections, some system-level changes, new tools for developers and then an interesting news, which allows you to change colors in the Chrome interface by setting the Dark theme .
The Dark or Dark Mode theme has become a required motorcycle option on practically all programs and apps, both on PC and on smartphone, because having white writing on a black background gives the impression of straining your eyes less when reading the screen, especially when it is watched in the evening or at night.
For example, in Windows 10 you can activate the Dark menu theme, the dark mode is also available in MacOS starting from the Mojave version and then also many Android apps, such as Google News or Nova Launcher, have the possibility to see the interface with black background (also dark gray).
If we talk about web browsers, almost all browsers are equipped with dark modes, such as Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Microsoft Edge.
The Dark Mode of Chrome therefore becomes a function integrated in the Google browser, even if it is not really a novelty.
As we already said in the past, in fact, it has always been possible to have a dark theme, installing one of the themes to change the appearance of Google Chrome, choosing the JustBlack theme or one of the others available.
The difference now is that you can activate the dark theme with an option without installing anything and without changing the basic theme, obtaining a greater consistency of colors and contrasts.
Chrome's Dark mode closely resembles the graphics of the incognito tab, with the background colors in dark anthracite gray replacing the usual white.
Gray applies to the browser window, the toolbar, the settings tabs, the Google home page, and also to some supported web pages.
Note: since the activation of the Dark mode makes the normal and incognito navigation modes identical, Google has added a recognition icon to the incognito mode, at the top right.
For the moment, the dark mode in Chrom and is available only in Chrome 73 on Mac, although it is possible to try it already on Windows thanks to a simple trick.
On Mac, to use the dark Chrome theme, you must first activate the dark MacOS theme by going to Settings> System Preferences> General .
Chrome will then automatically switch to dark mode.
As for the dark theme of Chrome in Windows, this too will require you to enable the dark theme of Windows 10 at the operating system level (going to Settings> Personalization> Colors ).
In order to see it immediately on your PC (waiting for it to be made available in the next versions of Chrome) you can activate it with a trick.
Way 1: the easiest way to start the Google Chrome browser in dark theme mode is this:
Press the Windows + R keys together to start the Run dialog and copy and paste the following line:
chrome.exe --force-dark-mode --enable-features = WebUIDarkMode
Press enter to open Google Chrome in dark theme mode.
Way 2: If you want to always open Chrome with a dark theme right now, you need to change the link used to open Chrome.
Then right-click on the Chrome shortcut on the desktop and then press Properties .
In Windows 10, if the Chrome connection is blocked on the taskbar, press on it with the right mouse button, then press the right button again on the word Google Chrome .
If instead you open Chrome from the Start Menu, open the folder (from the Run menu) % ProgramData% \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Start Menu \ Programs to find the link to be modified.
Now, in the Properties window, click on Destination and add the following line to the end of the string, immediately after chrome.exe ":
--force-dark-mode --enable-features = WebUIDarkMode
Then the string on the Destination field will change to:
"C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Google \ Chrome \ Application \ chrome.exe" --force-dark-mode --enable-features = WebUIDarkMod
Click on Apply and close.
By launching Chrome from that modified link, it will always be open in Dark mode, with a default dark theme.
In the future, when the dark mode is an option no longer hidden, you can edit the link again and remove the line --force-dark-mode .
