In this article we describe and recommend a small free program for Windows PC that does something as simple as it is useful. Quick Access Popup was developed with the aim of being able to access one or more favorite folders or even open files and programs with a simple click of the mouse, at any time and from any position it is clicked.
Practically, let's say that we have organized a folder with work documents or school notes and we often use it, even if this can be placed in the favorites of Windows 10, it can be recalled and opened also by clicking the central mouse wheel .
Quick Access Popup is a free program for 32bit and 64bit Windows PC that can be downloaded for free both in the install version and in the portable version.
The program must remain running in the background so, if you like, you must activate the Run at startup option (by right clicking on its icon in the notification bar).
Once executed, try immediately to press the mouse wheel to see a new menu appear that allows you to quickly open some folders and some programs already configured.
From the main menu you can open the configuration panel by pressing Settings.
From here there are three important parts to customize and modify:
1) First of all, choose which favorite folders, files or programs to display in this quick access list that appears by pressing the middle mouse button.
By pressing Add +, you can add a quick link to a folder, to a special folder such as the trash, the desktop or the Control Panel, to a file, to a document or even to a website link.
Selecting one of the elements and pressing Remove, you delete that folder or file from the list.
By pressing instead on Edit you can edit a link.
2) Press on Hotkeys to decide how to activate the menu, which by default opens by pressing the middle mouse button, wherever you click.
3) The use of the middle mouse button is right, as long as it does not disturb the operation of some program such as, for example, the browser.
On Chrome, for example, the middle mouse button is used to open links in another tab or to close a tab if pressed on its title.
To exclude Chrome so that pressing the wheel does not open the Quick Access Popup menu, press the Options button at the top and then go to the Exclusions list tab to mark exceptions .
In this list, definitely add Google Chrome and Firefox and also Microsoft Word.
Quick Access Popup, updated version of Folders Pupup, is a powerful and useful tool that has no cost, that has no negative effects, easy to use for everyone.
A similar program that you can download for free as an alternative is Direct Folder, which works the same way and allows you to create a group of favorite folders that are easy to access when you press the middle mouse button.
