App to access certified mail PEC from iPhone and Android

Certified e-mail boxes are mostly webmail.
This means that it is possible to access and log in to the PEC from any PC or smartphone, via a web browser, which is convenient on the one hand, but impractical to receive notifications when a new message arrives.
As we will see, PEC services are almost never managed by leading software development companies such as Google, Microsoft or Yahoo.
Therefore, those who are forced to have a certified mailbox cannot rely on efficient applications to receive and send messages via smartphone and tablet.
To make up for this shortcoming, let's see how to configure Android, iPhone or Windows Phone smartphones to access certified e-mail in order to receive notifications on the inbox on the phone in real time and to reply or send mail using the PEC .
In essence, we see the apps to be used for the main Italian certified e-mail services.

Some PEC services have their proprietary app in the Google Play stores for Android smartphones and tablets and iTunes for iPhone and iPad.
For Android there are certified mail applications from the Legalmail and Aruba PEC services.
For iPhone the only certified mail app is that of Legalmail, while for the others I don't think they are there.
Anyway, all these apps are poor, slow and malfunctioning so it's better to give it up.
To configure the PEC on the mobile phone one must find the configuration parameters for the service used and set them in the email application.
On the iPhone you can use the email app already present.
Go to settings -> Mail, contacts and calendars -> Add account, tap on Other and fill in the fields name, PEC address, password.
As an account, if possible, choose IMAP and indicate the name of the IMAP servers for incoming mail and SMTP for outgoing mail.
If there were no IMAP parameters for your PEC manager, choose POP (see also difference between POP and IMAP).
On the iPhone, the Infocert app is also needed to read the attachments of the certified mails
On Android you can use the Email app already installed or, better yet, download the free K9 Mail application that works very well.
On the chosen application, add a new account, enter the address and password and then the parameters of the incoming (POP or IMAP) and outgoing SMTP servers.
In general, for the POP3 server of the incoming mail, the connection is always SSL and the port, unless otherwise indicated, is 995 while for the IMAP, SSL and port 993 servers.
The SMTP outgoing mail server operates on port 465 and always requests to enable the "Server authentication required" or SSL option.
The parameters to access the most used Italian PEC services are the following:
1) Aruba
- Pop3 server: pop3s.pec.aruba.it
- Imap server: imaps.pec.aruba.it
- SMTP server: smtps.pec.aruba.it
2) Legalmail
POP or IMAP Incoming Mail Server: mbox.cert.legalmail.it
Outgoing Mail Server: sendm.cert.legalmail.it
To set up legalmail on a client or mail app, there is a step by step guide.
3) Poste Cert
POP or IMAP incoming mail server: mail.postecert.it
SMTP outgoing mail server: mail.postecert.it
4) Free PEC
POP or IMAP incoming mail server: mail.postacert.it.net
SMTP sent mail server: mail.postacert.it.net
For all the others, you can search on Google for the configuration parameters for the clients which are the same both for the programs like Outlook and for the apps on the iPhone, Android and Windows Phone.
