Windows Live Mesh is a virtual remote desktop with file and folder sharing on the internet

UPDATE: Windows Live Mesh no longer exists and its functions have been incorporated into OneDrive, as also explained in the guide on how to download all shared files online from our PCs
This by Microsoft is really an interesting product, completely free, not too innovative but with a very wide field of application, both at a single user level and at a company level. To describe Live Mesh I have to recall several topics already covered in this blog because it is an interesting and unique integration in the web panorama.
Onedrive is an online hard disk where you can store files that can be downloaded and opened from the internet.
Other very popular similar services are Dropbox and those that allow file sharing on the internet.
Windows Live Mesh incorporates all these features for online file synchronization and integrates them with the functionality of Remote Desktop .
The Remote Desktop is a Windows application widely used especially at a corporate and consultancy level, which allows you to access the desktop of another PC on the same sub-network (not the Internet) and enter it directly on the desktop to work on it as if you were in front of it .
In other articles we have described some sites like Logmein and TeamViewer that allow you to access the desktop of any configured computer, using the internet browser and therefore, for example, how to use your home PC from work and vice versa.
At this point, we have practically already described what Live Mesh is for, a virtual remote desktop on the internet to access all the PCs you want, usable by browser and provided with an online space of 5 Gigabyte in which to synchronize the files of a computer network.
To access Live Mesh you need a Windows Live account, the same used by Messenger, by Hotmail, Live.com, Msn.com, Skydrive and all the suite of Microsoft products online.
Once you have entered Live Mesh, you have two options: " Add Device " and " Live Desktop ".
Add Device is used to add computers to the control with Live Mesh.
A program will be downloaded to your PC which, once installed, will allow you to manage shared folders and added computers, directly from the desktop.

Live Desktop is used to create folders and add files to Windows Live Mesh 2011 which can also be viewed and used from the real desktop of the PC
The files added by the PC will also be seen by the other computers and the folder is fully shared.
After adding one or as many PCs as you want, (adding a computer must be done PC by PC, you cannot add them all together) they appear in the main menu, both from the web and from the desktop application. If they are turned on and connected to the network, the computers will be marked with the word "online" and you can enter them in a remote desktop, from the Internet Explorer browser.
Other accounts can be added to your shared space, made of files and computers, so the PCs and folders of the live desktop can also be used by other authorized people .
Windows Live Mesh 2011 is in final version and fully usable.
It also allows synchronization of favorites from Explorer, synchronization between folders of different computers graize to Windows Live Devices and synchronization of Microsoft Outlook styles, models and signatures.
I think that many people who access the internet and work from multiple locations and some companies that need to save money for the integration of the machine park, will be able to find many benefits from it.
