Cheats and hidden options of iOS 12 on iPhone and iPad

The new operating system for iPad and iPhone, or iOS 12, is really full of surprises, to the point that even now many users do not know what the system reserves.
In fact, the iOS 12 system always reserves the hidden, almost secret, features that not even Apple has advertised, to obtain very useful services, but which are difficult to notice without a specialized guide (such as the one below) or if the attention needed.
In this guide, in fact, we will see together secret functions and the most useful tricks in iOS 12 on iPhone and iPad, so that we can use our Apple device to the fullest potential without having to use a different app every time (maybe the functionality we are looking for is already integrated into the phone and we didn't even know we had it!).

1) Force close the apps
As on Android, even on the iPhone we can forcefully close an app if it is blocked or if it no longer responds (we hardly have to worry about the memory occupied, given the advanced management by the iPhone).
On models with a physical button, simply press the home button twice quickly to open the manager; on new models without a physical home button (iPhone X and later) just swipe from the bottom of the display upwards, so as to make the list of open apps appear; to close the apps just swipe upwards on the app to close.
2) Automatic saving of passwords in apps
With the improvement of the password management system (now called Autofill Passwords), iOS 12 can enter the passwords stored in the iCloud Keychain by itself.
By directly opening the dedicated menu ( Settings> Password and Account> Automatic filling ) you can add, delete and manage passwords and, when requested, the system will enter them automatically after confirming with FaceID or TouchID.
3) Check the battery
As on the previous version of the system, we can open the information menu that shows the health status of the battery, which is the fundamental component of an iPhone (often criticized for its duration).
From Settings -> Battery we can get the graphs on the level and how the battery energy has been used in the last 24 hours, also checking the consumption over a wider period (10 days) or check the specific apps by scrolling down.
By clicking on the Battery Status item we can also find out the percentage of battery lost during the years of use, thus finding out if the conditions are good.
In this screen we will also get some tips and tricks to improve the autonomy and battery life.
4) Advanced notification management
If the notifications of some apps disturb you, we can control them all on iOS 12, thanks also to the grouping and highlighting system, so as to decide which must always be in the foreground and which instead leave as secondary notifications (or deactivate them). To decide immediately what to do with the notifications, just swipe to the left, then click on Manage and choose how to receive them.
In addition we can go to Settings> Notifications, where we can decide whether to activate the Automatic mode which will be based on relevance and history, also turning off notifications to apps that we do not want to be shown.
5) Create a personalized memoji
One of the most important innovations on the new iPhones (X and the following models) is the possibility of creating an Animoji made on the features of the user, which takes in all respects the appearance and details of the face, with a cartoon style.
This function is called Memoji and we can call it using the App Drawer in iMessage; we can also add hairstyles, accessories, eye and hair color to our caricatured face. In addition to inserting them as emojis from various expressions in the messages sent on iMessage, we can also shoot 30-second videos from which to capture the movements of the muscles of the face, so as to create truly characteristic Memoji.

6) New face for FaceID
If we want to add another face to unlock the device via FaceID, now we can do it by going to Settings> Face ID and clicking on Configure an alternative appearance . The classic wizard with which to capture a second face will start, so that other people (for example your wife / husband or life partner) can unlock the device.
Obviously both sides will be valid to unlock the iPhone, without discrimination.
7) Set a time of use for app and phone (Screen time)
One of the most interesting new features of iOS 12 is the feature called Screen Time which allows you to set a time of use for apps, for the entire smartphone and the special Downtime function that allows you to limit the sending of notifications within a certain period of time by certain applications.
Really very good as a parental control system, so as to impose specific limits on minor children in the home.
We can access this interesting functionality from Settings> Usage time> Usage pause or App limitations.
8) Quick copy, paste and cut keys
To own a new iPhone without the 3D Touch we can copy any type of text saved to the clipboard by holding down the finger on the space bar of the keyboard and dragging the same finger on the desired portion of text (releasing only when we have reached our destination).
Releasing the finger we will see the classic copy, cut, paste and share buttons.
9) Measure the size of the objects
Using the rear camera of the iPhone and the Camera app we can now detect the size of the objects in the frame, without having to get any type of ruler or meter.
To use it, just open the Camera app, frame what you want to measure and follow the instructions to load the reference and align the two points to be measured. In a few seconds the size in centimeters or inches will come out, with a good level of approximation (obviously the sensor is not as precise as a meter, but usually it is very wrong).
Really very useful if we often work with measurements and we don't have the tools at hand.
10) Third party maps with CarPlay
With the arrival of the iOS 12 operating system we can finally use the map services offered by high apps instead of Apple Maps (much less precise and complete than the competition).
To use Waze or Google Maps, simply download the respective app, then open CarPlay and select the desired map app from the screen inside your car.
