As seen in the guide to the new features of Android 5 Lollipop, among the new options of the operating system there is one called SmartLock . The Smart Lock setting, within the Android Security menu, allows you to automatically keep your phone unlocked based on three events:
- If the smartphone is close to another device to which it connects via Bluetooth or NFC
- If the owner's face is recognized
- If you are at home, in the office or in any other place that you consider safe .
The latter option, called " trusted places " was added on Android 5 after updating the Google Maps and Google Play Services applications.
- If the phone is in your pocket or purse, that is, if there is contact with the body .
Thanks to this option it is possible to keep the phone unlocked when you are in a safe place, like at home, where there is no risk that a stranger can take our cell phone to spy on what's inside.
Anyone who found it boring and inconvenient to have to enter a PIN or to have to draw the sequence to unlock the phone every time you pick it up will find a truly definitive solution to the problem in this option.
To use the trusted places option or the body contact option on Android 5 and above, you need to go to Settings -> Security and tap on Smart Lock .
Smartlock options can only be used after specifying a lock screen on the phone.
In Smart Lock you can then tap on Trusted Places and selectively activate Home, Office or any other place.
If you want to add a trusted place, just find it and select it on the Google Maps map, using the pointer that does not necessarily have to refer to a specific address.
You can add as many reliable places as you want, without limits.
The location is based on the wifi networks around and the telephony cells so, without GPS, it can be inaccurate and have a range of 100 meters.
From that moment, every time you are at home or in another place indicated in Smart Lock, the phone will be unlocked and you will never need to enter the PIN to access it or draw the sequence.
If no home and work addresses appear in Smart Lock, they must be added from the Google Maps application settings.
Who does not have a smartphone with Android 5 Lollipop must use an app to automatically unlock and lock the mobile phone at home and away.
