If you see blurred text in Windows, Chrome or other programs

If in Windows, on Chrome, Firefox, Office or other programs the text appears blurry, confused or in any case not fully defined, there may be a problem with the DPI settings (Points per inch).
The problem could arise with the display of some particular fonts or on large screens with a high resolution and, therefore, a high DPI value.
If the display of fonts and text in Windows is not perfectly clear or blurry in severe cases, there are some tools included in Windows that can be used effectively to solve the problem of blurred text .
If the blurry text issue only affects a program like Chrome or Firefox or Microsoft Office, do the following.
Right click the icon on the desktop of the program that has problems and go to the Properties .
In the window that opens, go to the Compatibility tab and put the cross to the " Disable screen resizing for high DPI values " option.
Click Apply / OK and check if the problem has been solved.
If that doesn't help, you can try to lower the Windows DPI setting at the system level .
To do this, open the Control Panel and go to Screen to change the DPI values and then decide to restrict or enlarge the general view of the desktop, windows and programs .
In Windows 10 you will see a section that looks like an article in this blog with the title " Change the size of items ".
From here you can click on three links marked in blue:
- " these screen settings ", to open Windows 10 settings and move the cursor that changes the size of text, icons and windows.
- " magnifying glass " to temporarily enlarge a part of the screen
- " custom zoom level " that allows you to decide the percentage of enlargement of the text and icons.
In the window that opens by clicking this link, you can change the percentage enlargement number or click and hold on the ruler to resize it.
Magnification improves the visibility of text and icons on large, high-resolution screens, where text and screen elements can become very small by default, but text can become blurry at the same time.
I then wrote a guide on how to enlarge text and icons on Windows without blurring, also reporting a small tool called DPI Fix that solves the problem of blurred text in Windows 10.
NOTE: After the Windows 10 anniversary update, the DPI scaling problem has been solved for applications so the blurred text problem if enlarged should no longer occur, making the DPI Fix program obsolete.
If the text on the PC screen is still not good, there are two other tools to use that I have already talked about:
- Cleartype to improve the visibility of the text
- Programs to adjust monitor settings.
