Today is a special day for Microsoft, on the one hand it provides the latest patches for Windows XP, on the other hand it officially releases Update 1 for Windows 8.1 which can now be downloaded. As already mentioned, this Update is not only made of security patches, but changes some things on the operating system, modifying some functions of Windows 8, correcting some problems and improving usability.
Among the new functions, very briefly, the desktop is put more in the foreground and the usability of the applications is improved, now easier to manage, open and close.
Unlike what was done for Windows 8.1 which is distributed through the Store, often forgotten by Windows 8 users, the update is automatically distributed via Windows Update and is mandatory.
The update is mandatory in the sense that, if you do not install this update, you will not be able to install any future updates.
So either it updates or the computer will stay still and no longer install any security patches.
To update and install this Windows 8 Update you don't have to do anything, just make sure you have set up automatic installation of updates.
To do this, open the Control Panel and go to Windows Update.

The only requirement is that Windows 8 is updated to version 8.1 and I refer to the guide article on how to download and install Windows 8.1 .
Another prerequisite is to have already installed the patch signed with code KB2919442 that was released a few weeks ago (check in Windows Update if it is present among the updates installed and, if necessary, install it manually.
