Who uses the computer from the distant Windows 95 or 98, surely knows Winamp, which for a certain period of time was certainly the best program to listen to mp3 and music on the PC. Winamp, like many older programs, after evolving, changed hands and then abandoned.
However, those who still need a simple program to play the computer's audio files, a player with basic functions, which opens quickly and is compatible with the current audio file formats, the good old Winamp can still be considered still one today of the best mp3 players, in its Lite version.
Winamp Lite can still be downloaded in its latest version, in Italian, from the Majorgeeks website.

It is a program with a small and compact interface, with the same graphic theme of the Winamp of 10 years ago, composed of several detachable and miniaturizable windows.
There is therefore the main part with the stereo controls and the display of the playback time, an equalizer with 10 levers and the third with the list of files in the queue of the playlist.
The buttons at the bottom of the main interface allow you to start, stop, pause, advance or reverse playback and also add new tracks by selecting them from the Music folder.
There is the volume lever, the one to direct the listening from the right to the left speaker, the shuffle for random playback and the button to repeat listening to the last track.
The Winamp Lite equalizer is phenomenal because it contains presets already configured to listen to different genres of music: Dance, Pop, Techno, Rock and many others.
In the equalizer, the first bar allows you to raise the volume of the song if it is too low with the sound amplification function.
In Winamp you can activate the equalizer by pressing the ON button.
On the command window you can hide the equalizer by pressing on EQ .
In the playlist window you can add new tracks by pressing on Add and load or save playlists from the List Opts button.
If you right-click on a track listed in the Playlist, you can press View information and edit the recognition tags specifying the author, genre, title and other information that are automatically saved.
As you can see, all the important buttons are included in the small interface of the player, complete, compact and very light.
Note that it is also possible to load 3000 songs in the playlist and verify that the consumption of Winamp Lite in terms of memory is just 10 MB.
By right clicking on the header of the small window, you can access general and playback preferences to configure some advanced options or add plugins.
Winamp Lite also allows you to watch videos even if it is not compatible with all formats and VLC is certainly better for this.

In the options you can add visualization, output, input and special effects plugins .

I still believe Winamp today to be a great program, one of the best ever for listening to PC music.
