Microsoft has started, from today at 19, the progressive spread of the most important update of Windows 10, the one called Anniversary Update or, technically, Windows 10 version version 1607 . The novelties of this version are many and we will see them one by one in the next articles, but first it is necessary to proceed with the installation of this update that will be automatically released by Windows Update, in a painless and simple way for everyone.
To force the update, open the Windows 10 Start menu, go to Settings> Update and security and then in the Windows Update section check for new updates.
Version 1607 is currently being downloaded to my PC.
The download and installation process should take about an hour.
The only possible problem is that of the download size which reaches almost 3GB.
If you want more control over the download, you can start the download manually from this web page of the Microsoft site, with the direct link to the Windows 10 Upgrader program or Windows 10 update assistant ( Windows10Upgrade.exe ).
The program updates the PC by installing the Anniversary Update.
You can also update Windows 10 by downloading the latest stable version with the Media Creation Tool .
Specifically, you can download the Media Creation Tool from the Italian Windows 10 site, by clicking on the " Download the tool now " link.
Once downloaded the mediacreationtool.exe file that leads to the installation of the latest version of Windows 10.
When you start this program, you are presented with two options to choose from:
- The one to update to the latest version of Windows 10.
- The one to create the ISO on a USB stick or DVD so that you can then proceed with manual installation even from scratch.
Both options are fine for updating.
Creating the installation media is a convenient choice for updating multiple PCs, avoiding downloading two, three or more times on each individual computer.
In any case, updating Windows 10 does not delete anything, no files and no programs present will be touched or removed from this installation.
By selecting " Update your PC Now " you automatically download and install the Anniversary Update .
To find out if the Anniversary Update has been installed correctly on a PC, press the Windows key, write the winver command and press Enter.
In the window that opens you should read Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.10) .
