Solve problems of Mathematics, geometry, algebra, analysis on PC with free programs

In another post we had seen several very social and non-professional sites, which could represent a support and help for high school students and to face math, analysis and geometry exams at university.
In addition to the best online calculators, applications to solve equations, experimental but very powerful, we can try on our Windows PCs the best free programs for writing, but also solve the math, algebra and analysis exercises, also carrying out the most complex calculations also solutions to geometry problems
The programs in question offer valuable help in understanding how to solve the most difficult exercises and those in which the graph is also required.
However, this is not software for not studying or doing homework, but they are of great help in understanding the operations required, the steps and finding errors in the calculations.

The software recommended below is free but may be difficult to use for beginners, you need to know what is being done and therefore are not recommended for middle school students and those who do not digest math too much.
1) Microsoft Mathematics
The same Microsoft has developed a free program and a plugin for Word able to solve equations and mathematical problems in an effective way, complete with a 3D graph for the study of functions, which works very well for every need.
We can see a detailed description of the program and the download link for Microsoft Mathematics from the page dedicated to -> Microsoft Mathematics: Calculator with graphics and automatic solver.

This program offers a scientific calculator in the left side and a tool to draw the graphs and solve the equations on the right, so that even the most complex function studies and calculations can be solved.
The interface is a bit dated, but it closely resembles that of the old Microsoft Office so it shouldn't be a problem for those who have used Microsoft programs for a while.
If instead we want to download the plugin to be integrated into Microsoft Office Word, we can find it here -> Plugin for Microsoft Mathematics.
2) MathType
MathType is a valid program for mathematical calculations, but it is not free and offers only a trial trial period, sufficient to try all its features.

It is practically an advanced version of the equation editor offered by Microsoft and in fact it is compatible with Microsoft Office as well as being quite simple to use (for those who obviously chew math).
It does not solve the exercises, it is a software for writing mathematical formulas and equations, ideal for those who have to write dissertations or computer exercises without having too many computer "aids".
3) Geogebra

Geogebra is a powerful software that allows you to draw and solve geometry, algebra and analysis problems.
With this software it is possible to construct geometric figures, vectors and segments, straight lines and three-dimensional figures, functions, equations and algebraic calculations.
On the website, in Italian, there are more detailed explanations of the program, what it can do and how to use it, even with video tutorials.
4) Maxima
Maxima is a powerful program useful both to study even complex functions, and to perform simple calculations and equations that will be automatically solved.

You can also create two-dimensional and three-dimensional graphs.
Being only in English, it can be a bit difficult to use for a high school student, it would be advisable, if you have a good teacher with the computer, to ask for a guided study.
5) RedCrab is the scientific calculator for writing formulas and expressions on the computer, described in another article, very powerful.
6) Sage
Sage is a very complex free software suitable for engineering students because it is the alternative to programs such as MATLAB.

With this program we will be able to "program" our exercise and develop the study chart, so as to check whether the exercise has been successful.
A very complex program to use but that will delight students studying Computer Science and Mathematics at university.
6) Other programs to perform math exercises
The programs to solve equations and mathematical exercises are very numerous, below we can find others to try if the ones listed above have not convinced you completely:
- Eigenmath is a small free program that works as if it were a gigantic scientific calculator where it is possible to insert many types of calculations, symbolic and numerical, also equations and functions, derived and integral.
For each function there is also a graphical representation of the results.
Available for Windows, Linux and Mac, it does not require installation and a user manual is also available.
- Equation Editor is not a program but an online application that can be used from the web without downloading anything.
In fact, it is similar to MathType and is used to write mathematical equations, functions and formulas, so that you can then copy them onto a Word document or similar.
The graph of the written operation is also drawn at the bottom of the page.
- MATLAB is a commercial program used by computer science and mathematics students for the creation of graphics, function studies and the application of programming languages.
It is currently the best tool for studying and solving mathematical problems, but it is recommended only at university level given its difficulty.
- GNU Octave is the open source and free alternative program to MATLAB, of which it takes up most of its functions and potential.
If you love free programs and want an alternative to MATLAB, Octave is the only program worthy of replacing it.
- Qalculate! is a free program for solving math problems, with the possibility of applying formulas of all kinds to help you carry out the exercise.
- Precise Calculator is a programmable scientific calculator capable of solving equations and functions in a simple way.
