What are the apps that drain the smartphone battery?

Whether you own a Samsung smartphone, any Android mobile phone or an iPhone, I am sure that at least once you have complained that the battery of the mobile phone is always empty at the end of the day.
Unfortunately, despite the technology evolving every month putting ever more powerful electronic devices on the market, the battery has remained substantially behind (with a few steps forward) thus giving a poor and unsatisfactory life.
The main problem of battery consumption is related to the use of increasingly sophisticated applications that remain in the background to suck the phone's battery power.
Almost all smartphone users download applications, which explains why we all have the problem of being at 10% of the battery already at 17:00 in the afternoon.
The only way to deal with this problem is to know the apps that consume battery so you can disable or uninstall them .

1) Messaging and chat app
An Alcatel-Lucent study on apps that drain cell phone batteries found that messaging and chat apps are the main culprits .
Facebook Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Viber, Skype and WhatsApp are the worst apps when it comes to battery drain.
These applications, by their nature, are constantly active ready to send and above all to receive a message.
In an attempt to provide immediate and timely notification, some applications remain constantly connected to the mobile phone network in order to warn the phone when a new message arrives.
So having many messaging apps on your smartphone will decrease battery life regardless of its capacity and how long we leave the screen on.
Basically, if you have problems with the battery we must reduce the use of messaging apps or, if we really can't help it, try to hibernate with the tools made available by the operating system (Energy saving) or with some specific apps (which we will see later).
2) Social app
Other applications that can increase battery consumption are definitely Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google Plus, since this type of app must remain in memory to receive updates and notifications.
Here the solution is much simpler than the messaging apps: we can visit social sites from the mobile Web browser and still receive notifications (with Google Chrome), uninstalling all the apps so as to save a lot of battery.
We can download Google Chrome for Android and for iOS from here -> Google Chrome (Android) and Google Chrome (iOS).
Once downloaded, we open the social page of our interest, enter the login credentials and, as soon as the notification management request window appears, we confirm that we have integrated them into the browser without having to use a dedicated app.

Alternatively, there are the Lite versions of the messaging apps, Facebook and others, which consume much less energy and battery.
3) Video and games app
Youtube, of course, drains the battery when you see a video and in this case it is also linked to the size and resolution of the screen: watching a 1080p video on a 6-inch screen is different than watching it on a 5.5-inch screen with 720p resolution.
The streaming video apps (Netflix for example) are also among the apps that consume the most battery, since they often have to exchange data to receive the video stream and at the same time we must leave the screen access to view the content.
Games are the main culprits of excessive battery consumption on the multimedia side, since they push the CPU to the maximum and also take advantage of the GPU at maximum frequency, drastically decreasing the autonomy of our device.
In this case the only way to save battery is to make sure that they never remain in memory even after use, so as not to drain the battery more than necessary (via Energy saving or hibernation app).
4) How to increase battery life
We remember in this part of the guide the most important tips to prevent the battery from draining early on your mobile phone .
- Keep location services deactivated : we must activate GPS only in case of real need.
The GPS makes a precise location of the position, but consumes battery so it is better to keep it off, leaving only the localization via network active.
- Avoid using applications with so much advertising : if the app is chock full of advertising, the battery is affected, especially on some free games often make notifications of advertisements appear while remaining running in the background
- Do not always keep data synchronization active on the network : on Android there are applications that automatically activate and deactivate synchronization, which is very useful for saving battery.
- Turn off the mobile connection or Wi-Fi if unused : there are occasions where it is better to turn off the connections completely, especially at night, when working on the computer and when the battery is running low.
Obviously if you remove the internet from a smartphone, it loses all its functions, but at least you can continue to make calls and send SMS.
5) Hibernate apps
If our Android smartphone does not have an app hibernation feature and has at least Android 6.0, we can use the free Greenify app, downloadable from here -> Greenify .

With this app we will be able to analyze the apps that remain in memory even when we close them or when we turn off the screen, so that they can hibernate without problems (once hibernated they can no longer consume RAM and battery).
Many apps also keep notifications if hibernated, but it's best to test this feature if we don't want to miss important notifications or messages in an attempt to save some battery.
