Which Fonts to save on printing documents

When writing a document with a program such as Word or LibreOffice it is very important to choose the type of font to use and its size.
If you need to print that document, both at home and especially in the office, you could spend a lot of money more or less depending on the type of font or font used to write the documents.
Thinking of a 100-page document (if it is a single page it is irrelevant) written with a very heavy and perhaps even large font, the cost of printing will be even more than 30% compared to the same document written in a lighter font and that occupies fewer pages (with the same margins and other space settings).
It is therefore interesting to discover the results of some tests that measured the consumption of ink and sheets for printing documents written with different fonts or characters, finding how some are more optimized than others.
Basically, to save on printing, according to various research studies and verifhce, the default font Arial is absolutely not to be used .
The best to spend less on the printer is the Garamond .
I used the conditional because, in reality, Garamond, which is not exactly the most popular and modern of the writing characters, has a very limited size.
So if you don't want to print a too small font, it would be necessary, if you use Garamond, to increase its size (it means that a document written with Arial font at size 12 is larger than a Garamond with the same size so it is normal that you save ink).
Another problem is that in programs like LibreOffice the Garamond font is not present and must be downloaded and installed separately.
We must also consider that as a character it is not the most appreciated and modern that can be found, so perhaps it would be better to find an alternative.
To have a fair compromise both in terms of sheets to be printed, not to consume too much ink and also to have an elegant and readable font from any writing program on any computer or PC, the best font to use is the Times New Roman, light and quite compact.
It is no coincidence that Times New Roman is the default font of many writing programs and one of the most used in the world.
If you wanted to keep a little more originality, not to use the ubiquitous Times New Roman, there is a modern alternative that saves money and still remains a character appreciated at a professional level as well: the Calibri, perhaps a little, but very well defined.
To neglect, despite the good results in terms of printing, is the Courier, that of the old typewriters, really old-fashioned.
In the various tests (see here and here) that I found the Century Gothic is also appreciated, which however has a larger size than the Calibri and the Times New Roman.
Not to be used anymore to print long documents are some very popular characters such as Arial (which is the most used and preferred font for Curriculum Vitae), the heavy Verdana and then others that should be deleted from any computer such as Comic Sans and Impact that children like so much.
Finally, as already written in a general guide, in order to save ink and printer cartridges to the maximum, the best font for writing documents is Ecofont developed and sold by the Dutch company Spranq.
It is a type of writing characterized by tiny holes inside the letters that save a lot of ink while remaining clearly legible.
