The two richest companies in the world compete on all fronts and the field of maps which are then integrated into the business of satellite navigators becomes crucial not only for tourism.
In Italy, however, the maps for our cities we were able to do by ourselves before the Google StreetView bus passed and are offered by Yellow Pages.
Visual Pagine Gialle was an all-Italian project, offering, for our maps, a service perhaps no better than Google Earth or Microsoft's Bing Maps but different and unique.
Today, however, it no longer exists .
However, the online service of the Yellow Pages remains good, reachable at www.paginegialle.it/ and on the apps for Android and for iPhone, to search for businesses of all kinds near or far, throughout Italy.
This judgment seems risky yet, just enter this new site to immerse yourself in the world of Yellow Pages and experience the sensation of being able to travel virtually in all the Italian provinces, see the monuments and above all, be on the road!
In fact, as a Visual Pagine Gialle application it is inferior to the worlds of Google and Microsoft since it has only Italian maps and there is a lesser possibility of configuration, without offering more than what you see and without the possibility of integration with external applications.
Visual Pagine Gialle, however, offers the opportunity to walk the streets of Italian cities : with the "On the Road" option you can see that almost every corner of the city (only the main streets) has been photographed at 360 degrees with a lens panoramic leaving the navigator user the possibility to move, travel a road and turn around with a 3D view that recalls the videogames in a subjective way.
In addition to this option, you can fly over the city and admire the 3D reconstruction of all the buildings, see the weather and search for businesses and addresses.
An excellent service, finally made in Italy which, if it does not replace Google Earth or Virtual Earth, certainly integrates it at least until Google releases the same interactive map service that is currently only offered for some American cities.
